lining bar box pockets

Hey all,

I have an older bar box and aramith balls. I have noticed that the balls pick up black streaks from the plastic pocket liners after hard shots. Also, I expect they pickup a lot of grime from the ball return under the slate. I have been thinking about either:

1. Lining the pockets with something to avoid getting the plastic streaks.

2. Replacing the pockets with normal ones (avoiding the ball return and plastic streaks.

Just wondering if anyone had done this before. If so, what did you use and how did it turn out?

Where I lived in Belize players would carry around paper cups to put in coin table pockets - but I think it was more about protecting their coins than the cue ball.

I have the same issue. When I re-felt my table I am planning on using my old felt to line the return track to hopefully stop/greatly reduce the markings and to quite the return.

Get a new set of pocket liners installed.

Do not use old cloth to line the ball chutes!! It's no good.<~ sabotage!
Stuff the table with old throw pillows and you'll be much happier.

The throw pillows are a good idea - the box is just a giant resonator for the sounds inside, I might try buying a bundle of sound deadening insulation and putting it in. I have also considered using a sound deadening surface tape like dynamat or stuff they make for HVAC and putting it on the outside of the ball return channels, but I think that would be too much of a pain in the butt compared to just deadening the box itself.
