Regarding Danny in the HOF- his nomination was made by the 14.1 club members and then the entire general public voted, if you were so inclined. But...... He was nominated in the "unsung hero" category. Very few people have done more for the game of straight pool on the east coast in the last few decades. No one claimed he was a world beater (yet, undoubtedly, he can beat anyone in the world on a given day), but he created an infrastructure of leagues, then helped assist many room owners, nationwide, with starting their own straight pool leagues.
Hi nomination/induction was more akin to how Minnesota Fats got in. Not the greatest player, but played a tremendous role in getting our sport the recognition it deserved.
The premiere living player inducted was Allen Hopkins. Wille Mosconi went in posthumously. The have only been doing this for 5 years, and for the deceased players, they are inducting in chronological order based on which decade. They are not going in on talent, or Willie would've gone in on day 1.
