I agree thanks for sharing the footage, on the last video 22-17 they spot em' for a break shot - and I don't know why. Does anyone know?
They might be playing equal innings.
Normally in a three cushion game, a game not using equalized innings, the winner of the lag has a slight advantage as he is going first. The winner of the game is the first to reach the agreed upon points. Most people like the non equalized game since it rewards the person who lagged better.
In a game of equal innings if the winner of the lag, the player who breaks, gets to the agreed upon points first he does not automatically win as he would in a non equalized game. What happens next is the balls are spotted, and the other player breaks and takes his "Equalized inning". The other player has one more equalized inning to try to get to the agreed upon points. Two things may happen; First, If the other player fails to reach the agreed upon points then he loses and the other player wins. Second, If the other player does get to the agreed upon set of points both players may advance or they stay in the game and do a "Play off" ( not sure of the correct term).
In an Equalized game if the loser of the opening lag wins the other player does not get an equalized inning and the game is finished.
Equalized innings are much more important in the Classical Carom games such as Free Game (Straight rail), The Baulkline games, and One Cushion. It is possible for a match in Free game to be to 400 points. The winner of the lag makes 400 points in one inning. It would not be really unfair to his opponent if the opponent did not get a chance to come to the table.
I hope this helps you. Danny I am glad to see you playing again after the sickness you had a few years ago.
