Prototype values?

I was looking at some inexpensive cues and ended up purchasing a Pechauer. I wasn't able to find a model for it so I contacted Pechauer for more information. They got back to me and told me it had been a prototype and didn't have an official model number since they had changed some things when it went into production. I am wondering if prototypes are worth more or less than the cues they are prototypes for and what, other than condition, would affect this.

i would think less value since there had to be a reason they changed it

Not necessarily true for cues, but for many products a prototype is actually changed because it would be too costly to mass produce.

So, yes, there is almost always a reason they changed, but many times it is not because of something being unreliable. Most of the unreliable stuff is washed out even in complex products in the testing phase...which is before a full-on prototype.

Prototypes are usually worth less.......uniqueness or rarity isn't even a consideration......IMO.

As a collector of production line cues, prototypes leading up to the final product have less value to me. That being said, I have a small pile of prototype cues because they are fun and I find them interesting.

Don't have any picture experience but here is the cue.

On a side note pechauer is supposed to have 5/16 x 14 which is not what this looks like to me. Does anyone have a clue what joint this might be?
