You Can't Run With Men if You Can't Take a Verbal Beatdown

Great idea Angel, better and more realistic would be get Joe Rogan in there. Better yet get him to do commentary. He's a huge fan the sport. I think that would get it bumped up to at least ESPN 2.

Promoting anything can involve many different strategies, some seen and some unseen, some big ideas and some small. As each of us does what each of us can do, the tide can rise from those small actions taken together.

I think the most important principle is to be honest and recognize such things take a longer timeframe than many are willing to endure. That's one reason I don't go for large, good-sounding quick "fixes" but instead do what I can do effectively and consistently in my little corner of the world and encourage others to do the same. That's doable for the long-term, imho, vs. shooting the wad quickly and getting burnt out.

Share the article in BD this month by Mike P., for example, if you want to help the Mosconi Cup. That's one idea.

agreed. and thanks to the internet, ideas can now be promoted in real-time, reaching far more, while costing very little time/effort on one's part. unfortunately, Mosconi's US consumers #'s are declining (as are other similar venues), which indicates that it's not working within the pool world. hence, the OP's idea is to step out of that box, and go political/military. new blood. it's fairly easy for everyone here to spend 10 minutes googling the phone number for their local military base & then calling and saying:

"hey, is it true that the President has been invited to attend the Mosconi Cup pool tournament in Vegas on December 7 for Team USA vs Team Europe? are any of your boys going, cause it only costs $300 & there's a military discount?"

and they'll tell 2 friends, and so-on, and so-on. it doesn't matter if the President comes (although it'd be HUGE if he does) - it's the "hook" to get the word out.

and yes, great idea about Billiards Digest. everyone should call. all it costs is a few minutes of our time.

Thank you PINKLADY!!

It's Veterans Day, I pray your words resonate as loudly within this forum as they do within my heart and head.

I'm so glad you see the bigger picture- it's like trying to tell beginners to look ahead to their next shot-
they just can't see it...

You are brilliant!
What's more, you're willing to take the 10 minutes to Google a question and send an email.

If everyone would just send 1 letter or email to let them know there IS a Mosconi Cup, and that the USA has a Team that the country can get behind- we can garner attention.

You're an amazing human being, thank you for helping raise our sport and the people who play pool's profile

To all who may read this-every small effort has impact!
Ultimately, we want to show our efforts have value to all involved-

He has a show on the 11th in Vegas- he'll probably be there:thumbup:

Adios Amigo!

You're not being very inviting by telling others "adios," beings you're looking for more people to enjoy this sport.

But his comments demonstrate the problem I spoke about with inviting what many consider plain old criminals to join the movement.

If he cannot find it in his heart to stick it out and watch the event and insists he give his tickets away, that is his choice.

He has the right to walk away and not stay.
I will not beg him.
He can turn on his heels and go-
I told him "Adios Amigo" still acknowledging as "friend"

I've pleaded for common sense to prevail.

THIS!

He is a known name, loves the game and is a great commentator.

The problem with events like the Mosconi Cup is that for the promoters like Matchroom, it's really all about the TV coverage. That's where the money is for them and they don't reach out to the local community of where the event is taking place.

Why has no one contacted the Mayor of Las Vegas and the Governor of Nevada to alert them to this significant event? Why not have the Mayor declare an official Las Vegas Pocket Billiards Day, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and all the newspapers in attendance?

There is so much you can do in the hosting city and very little actually is done.
