Tips again.

No Shawn is correct and I owe him an apology.. It was in the heat of the pulled G2 thread and apparently Shawn had came off a break as I did not recognize him as being a normal poster or maybe my powers of observation stink..

I thought he was trolling or a Joe alias because of the timing of when he voiced his opinion and I did not see anywhere in the store's archive that he was a recent customer. Problem is I only looked at this year....

I just went back thru the old store's archive... It's one of the reasons we have a new store... You have to search the old one manually.. Shawn purchased in 2014 and I had not looked that far back...

We always say we want all reviews... That is the only way we can have a shot at getting better.

One of the things we have learned in the last year thanks to feedback is that there really is a huge reason that a razor blade or live cutter has to be used vs a cutting bit. It took a master tool maker to explain what was going on...

A cutting bit goes straight to the side of the tip and the force the tip over while cutting which builds heat and tears fiber...

A razor blade when used has the ferrule as support when cutting and shaves the sides without the added direct pressure.... Between the support and little bit of chatter heat and tearing end up being reduced to non-issues....

I do know, that even installed properly, the Ki-Tech may not be for everyone... If Shawn says he did not like the feel of the Ki-Techs that opinion has as much merit as someone who says they hit great.. As such no I would not call him a "douche" or anything else for expressing it now that I know he has actually tried the tips and was not trolling.....

Have been playing a Talisman medium for a year now and it has never mushroomed. I play mostly 9 ball and have to use power shots at times. The tip has held up well.

Pooldawg8 milkduds are tops. Also Schon Water Buffalo tips, available only at Seyberts. Then always the Triangle and the almost forgotten LePro.If you find a good LePro you'll be happy, and at less than .50 per tip you can just buy a whole box.Research on here how to pick a good LePro.Good luck whatever you choose !!!

Have the medium Talisman on one of my shafts as well... for life cycle testing.... The one thing I noticed with the ones I was given is that these all tested closer to a hard than a medium and so far most players who have hit mine have agreed it was more of a hard and not a medium.

I do like how it has held up so far... After a year I would be interested in seeing readings on it...

Talisman once was a pretty popular tip and even OB used them OEM but they had some delamination issues... So far it looks like they cured that problem and may go back to being a quality tip..

Will be picking up some softs to test next as all I was given were Meds......

Soft or hard. I just like the hit. I have the exact same tip on my extra player shaft. Consistency in my equipment is important to me even though my game is inconsistent. LOL

Triangle to Talisman med to Thomas med

I played my formative pool with LePro and Triangle. Then with Talisman med for years. I agree, Talismans are on the hard side.

I too had a few delamination issues with Talisman.

Now I have been playing with Thomas medium (labeled "Dr Chung" - Taiwan) an 11 layer pigskin tip that you can get for $4 a piece from Joe Barringer @ cuecomponents.com. They play very much like the Talismans, but no mushrooming, keep your tapper handy, once shaped they hold up amazingly well.

Thanks, Chris.

I knew it was a bad tip from the second I sanded the back. It wasn't your fault, which is why I never asked for any refund, or complained. You're modifying available tips, but no treatment process in the world will save a tip that had a split down the middle that you discovered once you sanded the bottom. That was the soft. It ended up cutting clean (I use the fresh razor blade method on my lathe), but I knew it was just a bad chunk of leather. It played like a marshmallow, but again - that was the leather's fault, not yours.

I am about to stick the medium on a cue tomorrow. My Moori has finally reached its limit, so I'll be test driving the M over the weekend, and the hard....I'm not sure when I'll get to that one.

We're square.

Shawn,

We always offer 2 for one if you get a bad one so I will gladly make the problem up. Especially after being an a$$..

We do everything we can to keep bad ones from getting out but occasionally leather can throw a curve even when it meets our current QC measurements.. I have the pieces I need to build a sonic tester and am hoping that will prove to be what the doctor orders to get over the last hurdle.....

Chris

If I get some I'll order some for you and ship them to you.

Be in touch by PM when you have them

E: Another member offered to ship these too, please ask me before you buy a truckload of them
Thank you for your offers. I'm glad that AzB seems to have a lot of really nice people all over the world :)

Search feature when using a phone just does not work too well.

I am looking at Seuberts at NON layerd tips and it seems the selection is well... Not much at all.

I am getting tired of the layered tips not keeping shape. Not mushrooming just flattening out two racks after just shaping it.

I used to like the old Le Pro tips back in the day but they do not play like they used to. Any advice on any of the other non layered tips. I prefer s softer tip to a med tip.

I do have a American Eagle Soft tip I am thinking about putting on before I give up o layered tips all together.

Ki Techs by Outsville work really well for me.

I would like to hear more about what kind of tips the original poster have tried.
I have installed quite a few tips and flettening of the tip is not something I see often, some mushrooming may occur with soft tips, layered or not.
Do you break with you playing cue?

I haven't had issues with other tips just the one I have now. But come to think of it all my other shafts have been 12.25 or larger. The one I have now is a 11.75 I'm or sure if that makes a difference.

As far as other tips I have used. They are just ok. None of them were so great IMO that I wanted to continue to use it.

I liked the old moori and le pros not the newer ones.

The Kamui I have on the orignal shafts are ok but the tip on my Jacoby is ok for gripping the cue ball and such but flattens down fast after shaping it.

I'm honestly not 100% positive what's on it. I had Jeff put one on ASAP to get the stock tip off before I picked the shaft up. (He picked it up for me at one of the shows)

My favorite tip is a Water Buffalo Pro from Cue Components. You can buy them on E-bay for $7.95 for 5 tips with Free shipping. They are a brown med tip. Some times you get a soft one or a hard one just like the Le Pros or Triangles. Never glaze or flatten out.

If you liked the old Moori tips, try G2 Medium and burnish the sides with Tiger wax or try the new Moori Ruby or if you can fond them Zan Tips.
Great tips, the Moori does cost a few bucks more and Zan can be hard to find in the US

Ki Tech medium for me. I was on a tip testing thing for awhile; tried about 20 different tips different hardness etc. Wanted to see what the differences are which one I liked etc. Ordered a Ki Tech sampler pack. Didn't like the soft too much; but I don't play with softs; tried the medium loved it...same tip has been on my cue for over a year and I play/practice just about every day. Even break 8 and 9 ball with it and no issues...still looks new and feels great...I do scuff it every now and then but not much.

I just installed my Medium KT today. I have not had a chance to hit a ball with it yet, but I can tell it's a Triangle on steroids. The issue you get with some Triangles is that they get a little "fuzzy" on the outside of the tip. The KiTech medium cut and shaped like a dream. I am looking forward to hitting balls with this, as it cut like the one to two mystical Triangle tips you find per box.

I think I just got a bad chunk of leather in the Soft, because installation was night and day from the S to the M.
