Some general OB+ shaft information needed, please... ;)

I have the OB+ XL Classic and LOVE it. I prefer the larger diameter shafts, and this fit the bill for me (I would actually prefer about a 14mm shaft, but at that size, I fear the LD qualities would be almost eliminated). I swapped out the tip with a KiTech hard, and am playing some of the best pool of my life.

If for no other reason, OB products should be any players choice because of customer service alone. Their gear is fantastic, but as good as it is, it is dwarfed by their devotion to not only their active customers, but their future customers as well.

Perhaps I'm old, or dense, or both, but for the life of me I still cannot get a definitive answer on, or understand, what in the world is an OB "MODIFIED PRO TAPER?"
Maybe this?

As an example, to compare an OB Pro+ shaft with a ‘modified conical taper’ and a Predator Z2 shaft with a ‘conical taper’, the taper on the Pro+ and Z2 are very similar. You may not notice the difference (although many players might). The main difference would be in the shape that the taper takes over the first 12 inches or so, ours gets fatter a little quicker which makes it stiffer.
A conical taper is straight from the tip to the joint (like a cone).

Some very kind words, thank you.

Bob,

Let me know what additional questions you have about our shafts and tapers and I will be happy to answer them for you.

Thanks so much, Shane. Your interest, customer service and patience with me has been amazing. A credit to you and your company.

Perhaps more aptly put, I'd like to know the variance of the 13.25 tip diameter as measured from the tip/ferrule and how it increases or varies, if any, from the original tip measurement backwards and along the length of my bridge length; in my case a rather short bridge length of c. 6"to 9".

My dilemma is that PoolDawg is only 30 minutes from me, but having called them a few years ago, they apparently don't have a retail showroom where I can touch, feel and taste the OB products.

Local B & M outlets sell limited billiard items; a lot of patio and pool items and recreational furniture. I have to drive c. 45 minutes just to locate a dealer with a cue lathe.

Since I play only at home, I don't have the luxury of networking as in my younger days, nor having the benefit of borrowing a fellow shooter's cue to see for myself.

Your customer service has already sold me the cue. It's merely the words "modified" pro taper that have thrown me. Clearly, now is my time to do my research; not sadly after the fact as some have indicated their disappointment in something called a 314/3!:grin::grin::grin:

Thanks again, Shane!

Bob,

The OBXL+ shaft starts at 13.25mm at the tip and 9 inches back it should be right at 13.5mm so it increases about a 1/4mm over the first 9 inches.

Hope this helps.
