I'm living in Florida (so sometimes humid) in an RV with its storage rather maxed out. I just had a new shaft made and now I have one more shaft than my case will accommodate. So I'm wondering about a good way to store the extra shaft.

My first thought is to put it in a 3/4" PVC tube and put a cap on each end and then store it somewhere in the RV. The temperature in the RV is reasonably close to what it would be in someone's house.


1. Is that a good idea?

2. Should it be stored vertically or horizontally?​

That sounds about like as good of an idea as any other. Vertical is a plus.
 
I would use a bigger piece of PVC and use a section of slit pipe insulation inside of the PVC, that way you don't have to worry about it knocking around inside.
 
Fine idea but 3/4" is too small. Most shafts are larger than that at the collar end... 1" inner diameter should work. Cap off one end. If you can get ahold of a very thin cloth material like maybe what's used for bed sheets, you can put it over the other end of the tube and push the tip end into the sheet as you push it into the tube to create a nice lining. Let some material hang over the top, put a cap on the cut off whatever excess you desire. You could even glue the underside of the sheet to the tube or just tape it. Put a bunched up paper towel or small piece of foam in the end cap to protect the collar end (if you don't have a joint protector)... This may be overkill but I'm good for that :eek:
