Custom Cue Question for Sourhern Players

This is going to come across as a weird question and I'd rather not explain the reason for it YET. I will eventually I promise.

Anyway this is primarily for players who grew up and played pool in the South (especially if you were relatively near the southeast regional triangle between Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Birmingham). I'm especially desirous of the opinion of those who were in their late teens or twenties during the early 90's up to say 1994. But anyone is welcome to answer.

If you were "a kid" who loved pool during that time and could have had one custom cue, by anyone no matter the cost, who would the maker have been? No production, only custom cues. I've got a few candidates on my mind but I really would like you guys to share your thoughts. Please tell me who and why you would have (back then) made such a choice.

P.S. I gotta lay off the Bourbon, I misspelled Southern.

I'm trying to figure out where you are going with this, but I can't. That might be why nobody is touching it.
I'll wait and see though.

Bill Schick
Richard Black

I spent the early 90's in Bossier City, LA. Bill from Shreveport and Richard from Houston. It seemed that everyone in Bossier\Shreveport had a cue from Bill. Also, a few Black's around that I remember. My broke ass never had anything like that though.

Now that I live in the ATL area, I would have to add Danny Tibbetts to my list but I didn't know about him back in the day.

Trust me it's no trap. I just need some opinions Allen. I value AZ opinions on this matter and it'd be very helpful.

You just confirmed my top two in the same order. I just wish someone else would chime in.

Probably a southeast or an early Josey

I love Keith. Makes a phenomenal cue but I'm thinking he wasn't well known enough by 94 to be the dream cue of a young player. I first met him in 94 actually. His sneaky Pete cues were getting really popular by then. Wayne Gunn (another candidate) recommended him to me because Wayne wasn't doing much new work at that time if memory serves me right. But good input and I appreciate it. To reiterate, I'm thinking "what cue would a really good 18 (or so) year old southern kid dream about getting in around 1990-1994.

You asked for opinions and Keith was repairing all of my cues and made a few shafts for me prior to him ever making a cue, So that was one I wanted

Thanks. In that case, tell me what you'd have gotten if money etc. was not an issue? I can use this possibly but I want your thinking. Was his newness to the cue making world a factor? How about his pedigree working with Wayne? Or was it just how good they hit/felt? Again thanks.

Even back before he made cues his shafts played great, so I knew his cues were gonna be good. And I'll still stick with a Southeast or a Josey

Bill Schick, bar none! Because he makes an awesome cue.

Went into a private room in Charlotte NC and there were probably 100 - 200 Richard Blacks in there......I think every member had 1 or more.

I promise I'll eventually explain this, I just don't want to deal with the likely negativity from some I might get. Ok I got a follow up question. If I decide on Bill Schick, which is likely though Black was my initial second choice and has been confirmed, I need some info. I could contact Schick I suppose but I'm not ready to bother him. Could a person have ordered a Chicago Style cue from him in, say 1991 or 92? I know he took a break around 94. But I'm thinking a Chicago style Schick from 1991 or two would fit the bill.
