The Tornado Open
I am glad to see that you will not limit the Amateur events to 64 players but you need to change the website if this is accurate and sincere. I think you can fill the 128 player event. I was extremely disappointed to see that the field on the website had been cut to indicate Limited to first 64 paid players after I had already signed up and paid. In fact, when you register now, the website indicates how many spots are still left. Today, the website indicates there are 22 spots left open on the Men's Amateur event. I doubt that the website will allow people to sign up and pay once that 64 is filled. So, you either need to ask the website admin to change this or retract the statement that you will allow more than 64 to play if they sign up/pay....because it looks like the website is going to limit it to 64 automatically. Are you really expecting that people will simply show up at the event to see if they can get a spot when the website is showing that the event is full months prior to the event date? If everything is automated, then you cannot even create a "Waiting List" for those that will put up money/sign up hoping that there are those that cancel. It would also be nice to see a list of players that have paid/signed up, once the event is filled.
If pros are allowed to play in the Amateur event, then it is really unfair to call it an "Amateur" event. The issue is that in the United States, the definition of a pro is a bit obscure since there is not a defined pro tour or pro association for Men here in the United States. Thus, the only players that really undeniably qualify are those that currently or have been on bonafied pro tours or currently play in pro events here and abroad. Personally, I don't care much about who plays in the tournament so long as 25% of the field is paid out, money added is guaranteed, and all the prize money is distributed as stated in the end. Likewise, the rules of the tournament and format should be clearly stated in the announcement and then held to with commencement and continuation of the event. An alternate break format on a bar table is already a leveling "handicap" of sorts. I am excited to play in this event and I anticipate that it will be well-run and be a lot of fun. I am looking forward to seeing in person some of the pros that I have followed over the years as well as seeing some of the top shooters that I have competed against in regional events. I am wishing you continued success with The Tornado Open as I have read a lot of good things about the event you put on in Texas last year. I don't think players will be surprised to see top players in the Amateur events...after all it is a lot of added money. I expect top talent anytime there is added money...even if there are statements about "No Pros", "No Shortstops", or "No Masters".
