Thanks. It's about 2 and 1/2 hours away. Does anyone know how much it typically costs for a pool mechanic to travel to disassemble and then reassemble from that distance?
Although Gold Crowns are awesome tables there are many here who have bought them and found that due to the long run of these tables and many models it is possible to buy Frankenstein tables.
These tables have mixed parts from other "like" tables and in order to play correctly you may need an expert table mechanic to re-work them.
RKC has posted many threads on this very subject over the years and has spent countless hours trying to make these tables good again. Contact Glen(He posts his #) or send Glen a PM and he will tell you some stories and what to watch out for. He may even have a table or two.

That table looks beautiful and what a price (and even negotiable, yet!). Should be a done deal soon as the OP gets to "Bob"'s place and looks it over. ( I'm guessing his wheels are on the highway heading north as we speak.)

Hopefully he won't experience that. Another plus is that he can inspect the table while it is still assembled. He can even play a few games & bank some balls.

Thanks, everyone. This table is definitely a consideration! But I also just got a lead on a Gold Crown II for $500 more with a ball return, which is sort of a necessity being strictly a straight pool player. It also happens to have brand new 860 HR on it. Even if both of these tables fall through, I'm excited to see that these deals are out there. So thanks so much for your help, and I'm so glad the Gandy Big G deal fell through at this point!

I am not a particularly handy guy, but i have bought several tables. Dismantled them and
brought them home.

It is a disassembled table nearby, but from a trustworthy gold member here on AZB forums. The rails were extended to tighten the pockets and new rubber put on with the new 860 HR felt. The bed cloth is new and hasn't been installed yet.
How much would a ball box and ball return system cost to convert the drop pocket table?
After my experience the other day I have an irrational fear of doing this myself and transporting slate. I know it should be easy, but I'm feeling old and weak all of a sudden. :frown:

I'm just trying to keep under my budget of $2000. I'm not saying I'm broke. If I buy a $950 table, have it transported for $675, that leaves me some money to buy a stupid ball return. I can't imagine playing straight pool and not having a ball return.

A beautiful GC3 just came on OBM last night with new 860 blue on it. In Texas but maybe between borrowing a truck and making a deal with guy u might have $2k in it And it did look NICE from pics. Gl

As far as everyone preferring the Gold Crowns its because they are just good, solid tables, second only to Diamonds, although I would never trade my GCI for a Diamond. You gotta remember Gold Crowns are a commercial table built for heavy use for many years in a pool hall. They were designed at a time when heavy duty and "built to last a lifetime" really meant something. In a home setting these tables will probably last an easy 100 years. If I forgot to mention it I would be on the road right now to get one of those 2 tables you found. When I found mine on CL I was knocking on the sellers door 30 minutes after I discovered it. I paid in full for the table but picked it up 2 days later, that was as quick as I could get help. The owner did not remove it from CL right away (he didnt know how to remove the ad) and he had people calling him and offering him over $1k more than what he sold it to me for, $300.
If all of that is true, and it was done properly, then $1,500 for a rebuilt GC and brand new cloth is a steal. Buy it today! Get a mechanic to pick it up and install it at your place and you are likely all in for around $2,000.
