Ugly Fact-

I may have been liberal in applying this number as a strictly Mosconi Cup number and not
prefacing it with-

The viewership for Matchroom Sport programming hours is 800,000,000 world-wide which is shown on Sky Sport, Eurosport, Sun Sport, ESPN (among others)
which includes Mosconi Cup, World Cup of Pool, and World Pool Masters.

Feel better?

Nope.

It doesn't even reach half a million at its peak, let alone 800M. And Eurosport has nothing to do with the Mosconi Cup and pool in general.

The announcer on the final day said 300 mil people were watching the Mosconi Cup around the world, so that ties up with the 800 mil figure, assuming 250mil for each of the other two events (may not be that even of course, the World Cup could be more popular due to the number of countries involved)!

The announcer on the final day very clearly said it was being watched by over 300 mil people around the world.

I suspect Matchroom is quite big in China which boosts viewing figures.

But yes the Mosconi Cup isn't on Eurosport (unless perhaps they own the rights in other countries where Sky Sports doesn't broadcast), although occasionally the do shown pool and Carom.

Does EuroSport air Matchroom Sport events?
Yes.
Is Mosconi Cup a Matchroom event?
Yes.

Did I say GLOBALLY, why yes, I did.
This included 2nd airings as well.

Programming and viewership is their business, Mosconi Cup is one of their programs.

And with China now heavily involved in many events, it's only getting bigger!

Absolutely, I think they said for the World snooker final it was 300 mil too, although Ding was playing which no doubt boosted figures!

But overall its very positive for all cue sports, if China gets involved in a big way (look at the prize money for Chinese 8-Ball for starters)!

The announcer was obviously high , if pool had anything close to those numbers it would not be on espn3 it would be on the mother ship channel in prime time

I have no idea how to verify what he said, I just assumed Matchroom would have a realistic idea of their viewing figures, given the snooker was similar it seemed logical.

Why are you so sure its out and by such a large order of magnitude (you may be right of course, I have no idea)?

For the millionth time. No!

Snooker does reach this numbers in China because of Ding only. Otherwise the numbers go from 30-50 million there at best. How on earth is it possible that a pool event like the MC can match snooker's figures without having any Chinese player involved? The announcer pulled that number out of his arse, make no mistake about that. Oh, and another thing. The World Snooker Championship is covered by the BBC and Eurosport. One is a free national channel and Eurosport is included in almost every country's cable TV packages around the world, which explains the numbers snooker is getting. The Mosconi Cup is covered by the British Sky Sport channel, which means that NO one outside the UK has any access to its programs other than live ILLEGAL streaming. And then there's ESPN. I'd really like to know what time is in the US when Mosconi goes live and where the potential viewers are at that moment.

If the MC had these outrageous numbers you're telling me, it would mean that pool is in the best state it's ever been. A true global sport in terms of viewing. That's pure fantasy.

Not quite true...Matchroom produces and distributes.

Sky has the UK rights, it doesn't own TV rights outside the UK (the parent may in other jurisdictions of course, hence the mention of other channels in Asia etc.).

The populations of some Asian countries are huge so whilst it did surprise me when he said that perhaps China, India, The Philippines etc. could drum up those sorts of numbers.

As for not having a Chinese player involved, for snooker I'd say your logic is correct, but Premier League football has been massive in Asia for years and its only really now that a few Asian players are involved, so the interest could be there!

Yes Matchroom produces and distributes but its product doesn't necessarily go LIVE in these big markets because of time difference and mainly because of lack of demand. Certainly not pool. Let's not go to football because I'm sure you'll understand that the gap in dimensions between the two sports is chaotic. A Chinese or whatever other country's viewer would easily stay up late at night to watch an important footy match live, he wouldn't give a flying buck about a pool match. Pool is just a filler for the TV. It's always been this way and it's highly unlikely that will ever change.

I don't disagree with your logic to be honest, I was pretty surprised to hear those sorts of numbers, but 300 mil is a big claim if its really that far off!

The thanksgiving day NFL Dallas Wash game got about 50 mil. ,,ESPN's largest viewership Cable and digital combined is less than half of that

Lets say I'm entirely off.
Lets say, only 100,000 people globally ever watch The Mosconi Cup.

Isn't that more than they get at home?

Don't they get honor, glory and attention from their peers as well as money and a bigger brand for their name?

Nitpick all you like, the bottom line is- this is big, MC has been enduring and now through our (USA and the people who live here) through the things we do and the things we fail to do, we will once again shoot ourselves in the foot.

In 2002 beating the US was a big deal, also in 2010 and the first win in Vegas. ...

The first 9 Cups were played in England. Starting in 2003, it has alternated between Las Vegas and Europe, with the Las Vegas events in the odd-numbered years.

Team Europe's first win in Las Vegas was in 2007, and the record is now 4-3 in Team Europe's favor in Cups played in Las Vegas.

[Team Europe's first win in Europe was in the second event, 1995.]

Sorry, bad grammar on my part there, I wasn't suggesting the first win in Vegas was in 2010!

What I meant was 2010 was a big win (I think this was the first back in London for a few years) and also the first win in Vegas!

OK; now I understand. Yes, 2010 was the first time in London since 2002 (when Team Europe also won).
