3 Cushion Session

Had a nice three hour session of 3 cushion last night. Played with a guy who is fairly accomplished. His all time high run is 11. I don't know how that measures up. I would say I just dabble at 3 cushion as pocket billiards is my passion and I do love rotation games although I play them all. My all time high billiard run is 5 and there was probably one lucky billiard in that run. I do enjoy all cue sports. We played on a Gabriel Kronos. Beautiful table. Looks like we will be matching up for 3 cushion action every Thursday evening for the next couple of months. By the way, my opponent wasn't on his best game last night and he got me 20-12.

I feel 11 is good, Philly.
I consider a ten run equivalet to a hundred at straight pool or snooker.

....playing for table or playing for time means the same thing in a pool hall...
...in this case it's even more exact....Kronos is the Greek God of time. :)

Sounds like you had a great time. I consider myself a novice - I played regularly for about 3 years, didn't play at all for 25 years, and now for the last 2 years have easy access to 2 nice tables and some nice guys to play with. My own high run is 7, which I did once, with one 6 and enough 5s that I don't remember them individually any more. and I'd say that puts me nearer the bottom of the pile than the top at the senior center where I play

Our own 12squared is the best player who ever comes in and I don't know what his high run is but he is very good - national class. He also gave me a lesson which has resulted in me having a lively stroke for the first time. Among the other guys we have an older Hispanic guy named Jose who in days past had the honor of being beaten 5 times by Raymond Ceulmans. Both of these guys have been very generous with their knowledge.

If you haven't already, get a copy of Bob Byrne's book. Since you are going to play regularly it is your fastest route, besides the guys you play with, to improving, IMO. Have fun, it is a beautiful game.

keep playing/learning 3c
you will torture frank when he comes back:grin-square:
sorry frank
but the cue ball tracks you learn in 3c
with the exactness you need for a billiard
helps all your games

Hope all is well bbb. Will you be up for the Expo this year? If so we should play some. I agree that 3 cushion helps all of your games especially a guy like me, a purist, who refuses to use a jump stick out of principle. I have played a little 3 cushion with Frank. He is interested in the game but is a little consumed, to say the least, with another game. LOL.

Thanks for the advice but I am terrible at applying what I read in a book to the table. I learn by doing and playing the best players I can find. I'm the idiot that wants to play the best guy in the room. It's the competition that drives me.

Hey Philly, Bill Smith's book is the best I've ever used, watching the video after reading it in the book will help you "bring it to the table".
