hello,
I saw a lathe at a second hand shop... I didn’t write down the brand but am going back first thing on Monday. I know zero about lathes except I made a wooden lamp at school once and would like to know if all lathes can be used for replacing ferrels and tips or does a cue lathe have specific parts that other lathes don’t? do most lathes have the ability to accept the smaller diameter holder things that hold the cue steady while turning? Also as you can tell I don’t know the "lathe vocabulary" can you refer me to a site that I can learn the terms of the lathe parts please?
many thanks

If you do a search on youtube with something like "lathe basics" you will find some good videos explaining the basics.
A wood lathe will not work for replacing ferrules and such as they have no chuck with a through hole and no crosslide and tool holder.

I agree with Kims advice, also look at vids bout DANGERS of lathes, safety first...
