I stopped at a local 3 man 8 ball tournament yesterday. A question came up from a teammate of the A team I was rooting for.
It was a tight match. Team J's 14 point lead after six games was reduced to 4 with two games left. Player J was at the table with three balls left, opponent's group was off the table. J shoots hard on the final stripe and misses badly, and scratches. Obviously upset, he takes a swipe at the 8 ball with his cue and launches it off the table. I think it went 50 ft before hitting the floor, then rolled another 50 ft before coming to a stop. Meanwhile, the last stripe was still rolling and made it's way to the side pocket.
Does the last ball count as a point since the concession occurred before it dropped? The extra point did not make a difference on the last game, since the winner of the game won the match for their team. A ruling was not pursued.
What about unsportsmanlike conduct? Should the game have been a 10-0 loss to J? This would have resulted in a 6 point lead for the A team. The A team player ended up with a run out in game 9 for the win.
