You need to stop with the 'personal attempts' because you're only making the situation worse.

I knew the risk. Ok so it's not a cheap cue but I felt like tinkering. How do we learn if not by trying. I would never do it again on a quality cue.

If that was CA you'd never get it off just by sanding it like that. It could be anything. Some abrasive have an anti-clog coating (gray usually) for dry-sanding, that can stay on the part if not cleaned off. It could have been oil contamination from someone's hand. Could have been too smooth, not allowing the finish to take purchase. Whatever it is, any competent finisher can remove and respray that area no problem.

That is not sanded...that is scraped by fingernail. I have sanded the entire sleeve bare...and slightly over sanded. Might have lost the contour/taper. I'm sure it's beyond remove/respray/refinish. Yes I should have simply sent it out...but curiosity got the best of me. And I'm ok with it.

Exactly what I have here. Under the finish not ebony. There is something wrong with the finish to begin with. It appears to be CA. Never had a finish peel

I'd say your problem is most likely the finish has poor bonding. In which case. Have the whole cue refinished.

I've seen this quite a bit in the black 'stained' cues. Most people do not know that some finishes do not actually "bite" (adhere) into the surface of what is being sprayed. The finish sticks to itself. Once the cue is chipped, it will continue. You can blow it off with compressed air in some cases.

OUCH! I went thru that on a plain jane like you had. 80 percent of the finish just blew off. I laughed. It was fun....ONCE.

So...does the butt sleeve get replaced. I'm thinking about putting a 2" white butt with a thin black ring. I guess the rest of the sleeve up to the wrap will be black. Will remain bumperless. Might retain the leather...maybe use solid black linen or white w/black specs. The forearm is in excellent condition. Does the entire butt have to be refinished.

The only thing that needs to be replaced is the finish. There is nothing wrong with the structure of the cue.

I over sanded the sleeve and cap. The taper is slightly distorted.

I realize there is a surcharge for an accurate estimate if it finishes nice and on time. I saw this sign in your shop.
I had a dental lab...people asked me to fix their broken dentures that they glued together. I sadly told them they just ruined the chance to have them repaired at all.

One of two things can be done from here.

-The butt sleeve can be cut down to make it thinner. This will also change the handle diameter and require the cue to be rewrapped.

-The other is to replace the sleeve and keep the original dimensions. The cue will still need to be rewrapped.

Hi RAT...just joking also (about the sign). Just having fun. You have a very good rep.
For the sake of signs....one of the sickest I've seen... we shoot the 3 rd salesman of month that comes in here...the second one just left. I'm thinking of restoring to original specs or considering a
1.5 - 2" butt cap in white with a black ring....or black cap with a thicker white ring a little higher up from the base. Something like the caps shown.
Will use black leather or a white/black or solid black wrap.
