This came up a little while ago and i'm not sure if my answer was correct. After the five spot shots how does sudden-death work? I answered that the first player not to follow his opponent with a make would lose. Is this correct? Basically a game of horse: i make and you miss, its over.

I would love to see one, if anyone has a video link to a shootout it be appreciated. Nothing like spot shots for the money.

Have you been watching? There's been a few already. Its like horse: they have 5 different spots to shoot from. If its tied after that its sudden-death. That's what i was asking about, how the SD is done. I'd prefer win-by-2 but the SO really amps-up the pressure for sure.

Who has time for that, I wish I was watching just to see the shootout, but I unfortunately am not. It sounds like a great format and I would love to see the pressure being applied in the sudden death shootout.

That's right, but obviously you don't have to fail to "follow" your opponent's made shot - you can miss first for that shot and then if your opponent makes it you lose.

Last night Shaw and Melling played win by 2 probably because it was to make the semis. One of the wildest 8 ball matches I've ever seen.

The shootout is a good concept, regardless of whether or not where the balls are spotted is the way it should be - work in progress but a great start. Beats one player being able to break and run to win at hill-hill in a tournament (please - alternating break to keep the game pure in all tournaments). Winning by two would of course be better but time can run away - so the next best thing would be if the breaker runs then the other player gets a chance to run back and the first player to miss loses. Sudden death shootout is third best regarding the purity of the contest but it's more exciting than the first two choices and, most of all, it's 100% fair. Fair. Exciting. Good job Darren.

I watched in the replay of the Shaw match today. I personally don't like it. I felt it cheapened the ending .

Another solution that avoids the multiple-game problem of win-by-two is a mandatory roll out in a hill-hill situation

Actually never mind, this is 8-ball.... Well that is an option in a rotation tournament
