After a respite from pool since mid-April, Jayson Shaw coasted through the Ginky Memorial event. I don't know the scores of his other matches, but in the 3 streamed matches I watched, he won 27 games and lost 6.

Contrats, Mr. Shaw!

[and good going, Frankie H., too, with second place]

I heard a commentator say that Jayson was pocketing balls the best he's ever seen him do

Here are a few stats for the 8 streamed matches I watched. The players involved in these matches were: Shaw (3 times), Hernandez (3 times), Dechaine (twice), Rodriguez (twice), Sossei (twice) and once each for Mitchell, Rivera, Robles, and Immonen.

• Successful breaks (made at least one ball and did not foul) -- 65% (60 of 92)

• Breaker won game -- 62% (57 of 92)

• Break & run games, on all breaks -- 27% (25 of 92)

• Break & run games, on successful breaks -- 42% (25 of 60)

• B&R, on all breaks, for Shaw -- 37% (10 of 27); for all others -- 23% (15 of 65)

• Average minutes per game -- 5.3 (The elapsed time for each match was measured from the lag until the winning ball was made (or conceded), so it includes time for racking.)

Edit -- the conditions for this event included:
- 9-foot Brunswick Gold Crown table with what seemed like lenient pockets;
- Aramith balls;
- triangle rack;
- jump cues allowed;
- rack your own, with no rack inspection by the opponent;
- winner breaks from anywhere behind the head string; and
- call shot, call safe rules

Jayson =
1 ball
4, 5
8, 10, 9
2 & 3 in the corners, 6 & 7 in the center.
everytime.

Fankie used a slightly different order.

But Tony Robles certainly would have observed that, so it's apparently fine with him in his events.

Any tourney Jayson is in I put him as favorite. Even Tony said it today, he is the best player on the planet right now. He isn't just winning, he is destroying people.

Perhaps at 10 ball, but I don't like his chances in an all around match vs Orcullo

Maybe, but the only thing I see him win is Turning Stone. No US Opens. No World 9 Ball, no World Pool Masters, no Derby City(he did win Bigfoot). Really no big international tournaments at all. So far he is king of Turning Stone and that is about it. He seems to turn into a pumpkin when the stakes go up.

You are only talking about 2017, what has he played in this year?? He's just had a 6 week sabbatical!

I really enjoyed Frankie H.'s comments when in the booth with Al. He's the man who has life itself and the current state of pool figured out.

Yes, congrats to Shaw for another win. But as far as I'm concerned, the real winner is Frankie, a guy able to live life on well thought out terms.

I think he'll be in China soon for the China 9 ball Open. We'll see how that goes. Competition will be stiff, no doubt.

Before last year the "Shaw can't play in big tournaments" line might have held some water, but his 2016 results speak for themselves with a win at the Kuwait Open and high finishes at the World 9 Ball and US Open.
