Dress Code for Gold Crown Billiards, Erie, PA

If you dressed like your avatar picture you'd be welcomed there. It's a good room and going strong.
I'd guess it's been in business for at least 30+ years..... www.goldcrownbilliardseriepa.com
.

lol I have no problem dressing nice, I dress nice everyday. It's just not the point. I'm glad his business has lasted that long, he clearly has a customer base who feel strongly about what others are wearing as well. Good for them.

He also has, I believe, a major tournament every six months or once a year. No problem filling the field. Florence Fuller at The Pocket Billiard Lounge in Binghamton, NY put on the New York State 9 Ball Championship from late '70s/early '80s into the late '90s. After the first or second year when the word got around, no problem with full fields and people waiting in the wings for someone to not show up/drop out. All willing to go by the dress code. Those very few who did not never played in another event there again. I've never understood why some people are so strongly opposed to a dress code. I've been to tournaments in the South where a lot of the players not only dress like bums but act like them. But, that's a whole other subject:rolleyes:

I'm not saying bikers are not good people. I ride myself, and have enough interaction with true bikers that I can fit in in a pinch. ;)

This is broad enough to keep the 1%ers out, and they are the ones who need to be out. I like the MC Colors exclusion.

Good reply, and fair enough. Thanks for the response.

Getting back to the OP topic at hand:
I feel most comfortable in sweat pants, a T, and hat. (usually facing forward). Still, I'd need to change my attire a bit to play there - and I wouldn't mind doing so. His home, his rules. Good enough for me.

There is no obnoxious, vulgar, nasty trash from the juke box. It has all been censored out (gangsta rap etc). Move to Erie. We have the finest, friendliest poolroom customers that you could imagine.
I think your rules are wonderful.
A lot of people forget that the pool room belongs to YOU.........not them. You are the owner, just like the owners of this chat site. YOU set the rules. The customers are guests and have no vested interest in the facility.
Anybody that doesn't like it can go somewhere else.....very simple.
A very successful music and barbecue nightclub nearby has the following sign at the door. (The place has been packed with customers for 40 years.)

Part of the problem with pool in general is that many just don't understand. Everything pool has tried to do to "clean up" the game has pushed it further and further away from success. Seriously, what's the point of a dress code? If you don't want "bums", raise the prices. Pool has just got it so backwards. In a game that's needs as many new faces as possible, why on earth would you push people away. It's 2017, people dress like this.

Dress codes in this game are just so stupid. My personal favorite is the tournaments where people have to wear a vest for some idiotic reason and half the field looks like Aladdin or they have a part time valet parking job. Why would a tournament require a f*cking vest to play a sport... jesus. And people wonder why this game came crashing down...

Snooker handles the dress code very well.

You'd have to be dumb as spit not to get around the "no hat's on backwards or sideways" rule ;)

Well, obviously you could just turn it around but what is going on in the world where people are telling me how I can and cannot wear my clothes. A backwards cap... really? How is a backwards cap offensive?

Gentleman's Sport

Yes, society does dress different now.
People used to dress up to travel by plane.

But there is a limit. Would you go to the Academy Awards, White House Dinner, Funeral, Wedding in a Wife Beater, Cut-Off Shorts and Flip-Flops?

Dress Shirt and Vest harkens back to when Billiards was a Gentleman's Sport along with bowling. Only in the US has the gambler/gangster element invaded Billiards so strongly.

You can wear your clothes anyway you choose to wear them.
Except when you choose to come into MY business which I OWN..... You get no say-so at all.
Then, you will wear what I tell you to wear or you can take your money and go somewhere else.
(furthermore, you can tell all your friends about how terrible I am. If they're your friends and won't conform to MY dress codes, then I don't want their money either.)
Very simple. Isn't freedom wonderful....

Completely agree, same goes for sweat pants, how is wearing a pair of jogging bottoms offensive. I agree with a few things on the list, but not the majority. I can also understand a dress code when PLAYING IN events which are sponsored and streamed, I played in the national Dutch knockout team cup this year, no dress code unless your team (out of 256 teams or so) reached the final day (8 teams left).

And for the guy that mentioned snooker, you do not have a dress code when you go into a snooker club in the UK!

Dress for the situation. Just the same you wouldn't wear flip flops to the white house dinner, you shouldn't wear what you would wear to the white house dinner to play a sport.

People, in general, dressed in dress shirts and sports jackets 50-100 years ago. The world evolved. Hey pool, if you can't keep up take notes..

Seeing this question asked puts me in mind of an old Harley-Davidson T-shirt that used to be seen around. It simply had the brand logo and directly under that it stated "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand".

I love me some baggy drawers.

OMG These look so terrible. You're not allowed in my business!

This is exactly the point. So out of touch. Cool! You can google something and pick out the worst of the worse to prove your point. Awesome! We could do this all day... the reality is, you and others are out of touch.

You can look perfectly presentable in sweat pants or gym shorts.. sure, you can also look terrible. Just the same, you can look perfectly presentable in a button up... or you can look like a low level drug dealer.
