Preserve the provenance. Send it back to Bill(after you call him) and ask for a letter to accompany the refinish.

I am going to have to agree. If the builder is still alive send it back to him, He knows his own cues best, and if he is not building cues any longer I would be willing to bet he ha a recommendation on who he trusts to work on the cues he built!
