Pechauer Question

I bought a Pechauer pro from a forum member a few months ago, the cue was several years old (Maybe 2010 ish?), but had not been hit with much. I think (thought) the model was the p03-E, as it has the piloted speed joint, layered tip, and the Pechauers signature on the forearm, plus it looks just like th one under retired cues section of their website...

I Like the cue, I like how it plays and hits. I have only played with it a few times, as it is primarily my backup cue, but last night I went out to a bar to play some cheap sets. I won handily, and as I was breaking down the cue, not paying much attention, something surprising happened...

Imagine my surprise when I discovered my 2 piece is actually a 3 piece! Anyway, do I really have an early jump/break cue? It doesn't seem so, as the shaft wont screw into the handle part...am i just stupid and never realized that this is common and all cues are 3 pieces? Any info as to what I have here would be appreciated....

I think I may have solved my own non-mystery...digging through the pech. website, I came across a "Cue Construction" Page, where they had this little nugget...

"Under that pretty finish you'll find the highest quality construction. All parts are glued as well as threaded. The stainless steel joint has female threads in the collar and male wood threads on the forearm.

The forearm is glued and threaded to the wrap section using male and female threads."

So it looks like the glued part has failed...

Learned something I never knew about cues and cue construction... guess I just never thought about it...Does anyone have a suggestion as to if I should re-glue the forearm and handle? Any specific glue?

Agreed. Really hope that’s not how pechauer would connect the handle to the forearm. Joint looks to be one for a j/b.

I appreciate the reply and advice. I agree. There is no glue residue or anything on the butt joint, so I'm not sure it was ever glued. Just amazing that me, nor the previous owner, ever noticed this joint...

That’s a Pechauer Pro Series J/B cue. They used to make them until they made the dedicated break cues and jump cues.

The forearm and handle are connected on a Pechauer with an all wood connnection.

You nailed it. Confirmed by the good folks at Pechauer. Thanks for all the help...Folks round here are an awesome resource!

This would be awesome for the scooter folks.... breaks down short enough to go in saddle bags, at least the butt would. Not much help with stashing the shaft though,

I don't feel so silly now. According to the shop they did not make this j/b cue any different than there pro series cues other than the extra joint in the butt. Same tip, shaft, weight system, etc. No wonder it plays like a standard cue.

On the bright side, I guess if I ever get to play with Kramer and the maestro on Frank costanzas table, I will have an advantage:grin:
