I did not want to hijack that thread but a couple of my matches yesterday got me to thinking about the flip side. Players who you beat regularly.

First...yea there are a few that I have a terrible record against...namely an apa 4 that always gets on the right side of the next ball and when he misses he locks you up tighter than fort Knox. I would say I have around a 2-10 record against him.

Now on the flip side. There is a former team mate that I have played about 9-10 times and have lost once against. I would not say he is a better player than I am as we are both 5's in 8 ball but he did reach a 7 in 9 ball for a couple weeks before coming back down to a 6. I have been a 6 in both several times .

The first time we ever played is vividly etched in my mind because of how he acted after he lost. He threw his playing cue on the table ...grabbed his case and threw it on the table and start unscrewing his cues putting them in his case. One of his friends was sitting there and yelled his name and told him to behave . He then shook my hand and never said a word .

Well we faced each other in masters several times since then and he has lost every time but once and it went hill-hill. The way he celebrated you would have thought he won the lottery or something . One of his buddies mentioned to me one time I am in this guys head big-time.

I never realized how big until yesterday. I wound up facing him in my first match and I won 7-2. We played 8 ball first and I was up 3-0 when the first incident transpired. He played a safe and then looked at the leave and yelled ...fvck ...when he realized he left me an opening at my last ball. When I got up 5-0 he slammed his cue on the floor and started retrieving the balls out of the table. One of the guys standing around watching ran over to the cue on the floor and acted lime he was kicking it and a bunch of people started laughing. Real proud of myself....never let out so much as a snicker.

On to 9 ball and he won the first 2 racks due to early 9 combos . He finally had a smile on his face. I won the next 2 racks winning the match 7-2.

Well I decided to enter the singles tournament later after being put out of the masters tournament. Unbeknownst to me he entered the same tournament also. Well it just so happened that my first match was against this same guy. I won 4-1 in a 4-4 race. Later on one of my buddies asked me if I saw when this guy had picked his numbered chip out of the bucket . I said no I was off talking to the guy who was going to be the new league owner. My buddy told me that when he picked his chip and realized he was playing me his first match he threw the chip back in the bucket in disgust. I said...wut ?

He said yea that the lo and a couple others standing there got a laugh out of that. The lo also told me about it later. Then It hit me that I really am in this guys head.

Have any of you guys ever encountered guys like this ?

There is a player in our room who plays right on the level with me. I consider us as friends, but competitors in our tournaments as well. We enjoy playing cheap sets, which we treat more as practice sessions. He is probably known to have a gear above me when he's playing really well, but doesn't have near the consistency that I have. Whenever we match up, he just can't seem to play anywhere near his potential / level. The last time we played, we were playing sets / races to 4, and he retired after losing the first 5 sets. One set he conceded the set at 3-0 and the final set he conceded at 2-0 and quit. Any competitor knows that in a race to 4 games, even being down 3-0 you absolutely never give up. I sure wouldn't.

It doesn't give me much satisfaction to beat him when he plays the way he plays against me, as usually I'm not even playing that well myself. He's probably beats me less than 1 of every 5 times we play, and the last time it happened a while ago, I won it back plus more the very next time we played. I really kinda feel sorry for him and wish he'd play better, as I'm thinking it would force me to play better. He's always very polite throughout and at the end of our sessions, usually expressing that he wishes he could have given me a better game. It's often awkward to know what to say to him at the conclusion of our sessions, as I know he's disappointed in his play.

Well this guy and I are not really friends . I was friendly with him at one time but there has been some negative history between us in the past.

I felt he did me wrong quitting my team with out notice and taking most of my players with him. quitting was not the problem ...not giving any notice and my not finding out until 4 days before the new session was a major problem. On top of him not letting his wife play on both teams ....which was allowed .... For a week or two until I could get a low handicap. I had to forfeit the last match for 2 weeks in a row until I got a player. His wife wanted to play for me and felt he did me wrong.

He wanted to continue playing on my other team and I was going to let him but when he refused to help me out by letting his wife play I kicked him off that team.

So ....there is no love lost between us but yea....still awkward the way he acts every time I beat him. Maybe one day he will realize the more he lets me get in his head the easier it is to beat him.
