Fine position played @ 72.
So basically, he had to hit a ball, and have his cue ball go to a rail, then hit the second ball. Not go to a rail first, and then hit both balls. Right?
the only thing that matters is have to touch a rail before the third ball is hit
So, you're basically telling me that I was right? Because the cue goes to a rail, then strikes the red, then off white, and no rail?
I say this, because the way I learned to play one cushion is exactly as the rules I quoted above have stated. You must strike the first ball (red or off white), hit a rail, then strike the third ball (red or off white) that you hadn't yet struck.
Perhaps I'm reading things funny and was taught wrong? This is a game that I haven't played, save for maybe once or twice.
ok so lets not look to virtual pool for rule sets lol
i see the wicapedia link, that must have been how it was played back then, so i understand where your coming from
but its not vaild in modern caroms
He didn't do it there. The red appears to come off the rail prior to his cue striking his opponents cue ball. This satisfies rule number two under, valid shots, of the first set of rules I quoted to you. I think I'm still right.

D - Cushion gamesArt. 81 - Definition 82 - One cushion
As far as one cushion is concerned the cue-ball must have come into contact with at least one cushion before touching the second object-ball if not there will be a foul. (indicated by "no cushion")
The rules you quoted up above don't explicitly state when the first object ball has to be struck. Seems a little ambiguous. I'm fairly sure that even in the three cushion matched I've watch that they had to go three rails before contacting the second target ball.

Whatever though, rules change over the years. And I haven't played in a long time.
Whatever though,
yap that rule must have changed a LOOOONG time ago,

At 1:48 in, I don't think that was a valid shot. Or was it? Had to look it up, and this is what I found:

EDIT: Just noticed your edit after posting. The rules I quoted are wrong then?
