Digicue Blue. Guys are Afraid to Know?

The pool instructor can peg the highest on every parameter but I can't. His stroke is much better than mine and I want to learn to get my stroke better, if I can. Does that seem reasonable? I don't spend my money on several cue sticks. I only have one with a couple of shafts. I do spend my money on training aids and instruction.

What that means is that there is a pool instructor out there that can make the little doohickey do what he wants.

It is not proof of superior play. So I ask again: where is the proof that making the device give you particular feedback translates to improved play?

Its not designed to produce higher runs or pocket balls or pick future blue chip stocks, its designed to let you know where your stroke has errors. If it does that its a great training tool for new players that will enable them to play better faster which might lead to MORE people playing.

I dont know if it works like advertised but if it does it would be great for a pool hall to have when new people show up. If I were a pool hall owner I would give a free short lesson using it to newbies hoping they can learn faster and stay longer.

If the balls are going into the pockets and the CB behaving the way I expect it to BUT I get poor results with the gadget, who is to say I have a poor stroke or that using it is guaranteed to improve my performance?

If I can run 100 before using it, and then change my PSR and stroke to get good stroke trainer feedback, have I truly "improved" my stroke? My point is of course that you can have the most picture perfect piston like stroke and not be able to run balls.

Tons of guys play great with all kinds of strokes because they have learned to produce good results with the stroke they have. Changing that to some pie in the sky ideal doesn't automatically mean they will become better players and they could in fact become worse.

Good post. I think we all know anyone that can afford the Digicue Blue and doesn't buy one, they do NOT want the digital accurate critique on their stroke. Simple as that. Their stroke is fantastic and they want to leave it like that (in their head).

Come off it man, there are lots of reasons not to buy it. How about sick of stuff that either doesn't work well, or isn't useful. I myself bought the QMD Stroke trainer gen 1, then I bought the Digicue Gen 1. Both were so hard to figure out and use. Then I was a beta tester for Digicue Blue. That worked better, but was of limited value to my actual game, IMO.

Sometimes we get burnt out on buying crap that doesn't help anything and is hard to use, to boot.

YMMV.

Lou,
I found your articles over at http://jbstein.com very helpful and I think I understand where your coming from. The digiCue isn't going to help with aim but it will help them get the cue ball where they want it to go right or wrong.

Playing on the level you discussed in "The Physics of Pool" to me also means having a stroke that puts the tip exactly where you want it on demand, nice and straight, and without any tip steer. This will help create the tool needed to better control of the Cue Ball.

In my opinion after developing a stroke it's time to use that stroke in shot aiming, and control options practice without having to wonder if it was your stroke or "operator" error that caused the failure. The digiCue helps clear that up real fast.

It's just a simple way to get a better idea if it was your stroke or your "aiming system" that caused you to sit down.

So will you pocket more balls? Well I guess that depends on the "Aiming system"

wow, I didn't even know those were out there -- Jack was a fellow poster back on RSB/ASP in the 90's. I had no idea he'd vacuumed up some of my old posts.

Returning to the discussion, I don't think you can automatically categorize stroke steer, or using backhand english, or going through the CB at an angle as a flaw. Many of the greats use those exact techniques either consciously or unconsciously. (I should also point out that I don't believe in aiming systems, news flash, lol.)

I just returned form the Derby this week and I saw *all kinds* of strokes and stances and bridges and grips. Chris Melling, whom I watched do particularly well in the 14.1 Challenge room, had a very distinctive stroke and grip that would probably make the stroke trainer go batshit. So you'll just have to categorize me as a non-believer on this one.

This stuff reminds me of the scene from "Tin Cup" where Roy is trying out all the stuff he told his student to never use. Golf has had more "improvement" gizmos than any game on Earth and maybe five have ever done anything. Hey, if you think it works, it works.

I understand if you are happy with your stroke. But for the ones that want to improve this device is a good one. I think it's hard to play great pool without a great stroke. Which must come first.

Yeah i tried it for an hr . Ran out over and over and over and over , all the while it's telling me my stroke is jacked ! I'm old school and think practice , natural talent and heart is what makes a great player . Hope tou sell a bunch of them tho 😊.

True enough and I've owned a few of them when I played golf. I think everyone will find someone with their phone on the table with one of these Digicue Blue devices. Try it out. If you can get your acceleration on the follow through constantly past 7.0, you're better than I am (so far). My instructor pegs it at 10.0 on his first use of it. An amazing stroke. Like an easy golf swing that drives the golf ball 300 yards like Ernie Els.

Wonder what it would tell Keith Mcready , Efrin , Bustamante ? ,,, lol .... I'm sure it will help but I've been this way for years . My stroke looks like an old hand water pump .

I'm not in market for one for starters and all the recent bad publicity on the CS at OB would make it a complete non-starter for me. Electronics die. Fact-of-life. Are you stuck with a $150 piece of plastic if(or when) it quits? You like it, great.

Bet a little bit and that digicue will be shaking then what fixes that ? All strokes are different. WE are fine the way WE are . But whatever you say , WE are afraid 😳!!!! Let ME know when that Digicue fixes yalls stroke and we can play some sets ! Good luck 🍀

Yes, and it is like any training device. In golf, the longest distance a golfer will find is between the driving range and the first hole in competition. Millions can hit the ball straight and long on the range, but few of us can do that in competition on the golf course.

That's funny. Maybe they could add a "You're about to dog it" function. Sort of a " DANGER Will Robinson. Sensors are telling us you are about to choke. Adjust accordingly". ;)

Did your instructor get such a straight stroke from the digicue?

There is no fear of using the device. That's the insult you put out that has everyone jacked up.

Hall of Fame golfer Lee Trevino, regarded as one of the all time best had an ugly swing.

I get instant feedback as soon as the CB leaves my cue tip. I have stroke drills that also give me instant feedback.

I took my Digicue up to the lesson. That was the first time he's seen it. Lee Trevino had a fantastic swing from a foot before the golf ball and a foot after. If he had a training device that showed that.... it would be amazing.
"Fear" would be for the guys that know the device is available for them to see how their stroke piles up but refuse to use it. There are a bunch on here that will not use the device even if available. Why, I don't know.
