Been watching some old vids of Sigel playing both 9b and 14.1. Did somebody teach him that "spread eagle" stance or was it just how he played as a kid? Looks really uncomfortable but effective as hell for Mike. He was in Tulsa a while back touting his new league and he hit a few balls and i was really impressed by his cue delivery.

I don't know about his stance, but if you look at his setup on Video it's textbook--head, arms and cue in perfect alignment. Slow back swing and smooth delivery.

I wouldn't recommend his stance to any student--future back and neck problems.

Kinda agree here. Mike must be pretty flexible(even now) to play like that. AFAIK he's never had any major health issues due to pool. I've seen a few guys with pretty wide stances(Dave Matlock for one) but none quite as spread out as Mike.

He has had some issues, because of his stance.

I don't believe that. I know him and have watched him play for years and although his stance may appear a bit unorthodox, he was always perfectly in balance at the table. It's when you're out of balance that you start to have issues from your stance.

I don't wish to be indiscreet, so he has had some issues--if you want to chat via PM.

Mike has had some neck/back problems at certain times in the past. Whether it's due to his stance is another question.

I remember back in the 2000 U. S, Open in New York, Mike fell out of his stance a little. His alignment and balance were off. That was the tournament where he broke his shaft out of frustration. That off-stance could have resulted in some pain issues had he continute to stand that way, but it wouldn't be chronic if he found his way back, and I'm sure he eventually did, being the pro that he was.
