Why Did David Alcaide Play The Shot This Way?

Hi there,

I am currently experimenting with a new video series format ("Why Did Player XY Play The Shot This Way") where I anaylze certain shots / racks of pro pool players. At least I am trying to.

In the latest episode I am going over a rack of the World Pool Masters 2019 final between Alex Kazakis and David Alcaide.

I was wondering if you could give a a little feedback to the production and if there is anything I should change or do better:

You misspelled rack in the subtitle. I'm no English major but for some reason, "entire" seems a better choice than "whole".

Other than that, the production value is top notch and not just for a pool video. It is very clear, concise and watchable. I'm not qualified to judge the pool analysis but I'm sure others, qualified and not, will take care of that.

I like it.
Would be really good for lower skilled players who are learning position routes.
You show how pros get out of line and work to get back in line.

I like it. A few minor quibbles as previously mentioned but overall very well done.

Very good no nonsense video and not trying to drag it out to 10mins with pointless chatter like some of the vids I've seen.

He has a great ability to pack in very relevant info in a short period of time. Generally 8-13 minutes.
His computer generated animations are striking & effective!
I've been a subscriber for some time now.

As others have stated I too am a fan of your channel.

I watch your videos and appreciate your contribution to pool.

Like to see you do some stuff on jumping (preferably with a 3 piece jumped cue).

Please keep doing what you're doing sir...

I like the video.

I think the title needs to change. The "Why did he play the shot" thing made me think we were going to be discussing one shot in particular. I kept wondering when we were going to get to the shot in question, and it never came. I would prefer to see "rack analysis" or something else. I would've enjoyed it more if I wasn't impatiently awaiting the shot.

It's well done and enjoyable except sometimes, I had trouble understanding due to your accent. However, it is not unusual for me to have trouble understanding non-English speaking people. I'd just work on speech and have no idea how to do that, lol. It sounded almost like a robot voice in some places. Not knocking, just giving my opinion.

I didn’t like the video. Too much setting of the scene, and the need to watch another video to understand his idea of concepts. Too much time setting up of the shot, and then 20 seconds discussing the shot in question. Plus the reason David went two rails off the 4 to the 5 was not because the use of inside English makes the shot harder. It’s due to the fact that if he were to slightly under hit the inside spin, he would be left with a steep angle on the 5. Leaving a much more difficult shot.

David Alcaide went two rails from the 4 to the 5 because the room for position was much greater than one rail with inside. Leaving himself without having to worry about a scratch in the side because he got too much angle.

Excellent!

I always watch whatever you post and your work is always first class and relevant! I pass your work on to others and they too always find them enjoyable.

Phil Chapelle produced a video and book where he analyzed a match between Reyes and Archer, would love to see your take on some current player and maybe get thier feed back on why they did what.

Great work, thanks for doing what you do!

I was also a little confused by the title. I was expecting one shot.

How about something like: "9-Ball Close-up: David Alcaide"

As for his reason for using outside on the four ball, I partly agree with you but I think a main reason it to avoid any possibility of a skid/cling/kick/bad contact.

Very well done video! On the shot I think you're referring to, I assume, like many of us, he was just more comfortable spinning the cue ball around 2 cushions (end rail / side rail) with outside spin as opposed to using inside to send the cue ball straight back up the table off the end rail, even though the inside option would appear to keep the cue ball on the desired positioning line longer. Additionally, pro level players have such precise speed control that even though his cue ball was crossing the desired positioning line by going 2 cushions instead of 1, he was likely only going to come up either a few inches short or a few inches beyond a straight-in shot - either of which he could work with. Sometimes personal preference and what you feel comfortable with executing (particularly under pressure) trumps what the general consensus may claim is the more logical choice for a positioning route for the cue ball to take on a particular shot.

I had the same reaction.

Nice video, my only comment might be to clarify who the video is for (ie, what level of player are you aiming at) and what will they learn...….seems like a lot of footage just to show that there were two ways to play that shot...

production work is good.

thanks.

Thanks a lot for all your feedback. I will work on it and try to make things better. The english pronounciation / tonation is pretty hard for me though
