Rhyme or reason for veneer color combination

Are the reasons for a gradient effect look on the points? Think flame points.

Or no reason. Such as the traditional red green combo.

I'm having a cue built, legendary build, and I'm not sure how to pick out the colors. Don’t want to F up.

Think about colors you like. Then line them up say a half inch or 3/4" apart on top of each other. That should help.
Pick a color combo. One of us might have done something similar and provide a sample for you.
