I was looking at some custom cues, as we like to do here, and I got to wondering...

Has anyone ever seen a cue with a leather butt cap rather than rubber one? I tried an online search and now I have to go sanitize my eyes after some of the images popped up.

But seriously, I thought it could be a cool look if done right. If not is there a reason to not use leather?

Sure you wanna tell people you have a nice new leather butt-cap??? ;)
 
Leather bumper, yes. I made this one. A buttcap should be more ridgid so it can be machined and installed with tighter tolerance.

It was a pain in the ass to make. I made one from white Delrin and one from brown phenolic. They were easier to make. If I had to do it again, I'd have cut up an old cowboy boot heel, which is stacked leather. I had to glue the pieces together from an old belt that was not as easy as I thought.
