Shaft Question - how to make slick and remove dry wood feel

Thanks 9 ball I Appreciate it. I will look into them. All the local dealer here had was Action cues that had a black sneaky. Some of the greats here seem to look down on Action but a Friend of mine who beat Shannon Daulton to a race to 10 has one that probably 15 years he uses in places he did not want to take his better cue in and it seems to hit pretty decent. One or 2 of these guys here are probably decent ball bangers but a few seem to either suffer from small penis syndrome or they are trying to impress someone. Either way they usually don’t amount to much. But Thank you for taking the time to get me a link. I Appreciate it.

Yeah, the quality of Action cues might be better then it used to be, but I know of that sticky finish that you were referring to, and I know that you always get that in super low, poor quality cues. I know how horrible it feels, and I imagine the taper on that shaft is probably horrible, but a beginner is not going to care about the taper anyways.

Anyways, some 400 grit sandpaper, then 600, then 800, then 1,000, then 1500, then 2,000, and then the shaft might be super smooth. If the wood under the finish is of a very low quality though, then I imagine that it might not be able to get very smooth. I might be wrong.

My remark was directed to child rearing not pool.
So was mine. The kid just started getting into pool. He may love it or in a couple of months forget about and not play anymore. It would seem common sense wise to not buy a higher dollar cue than needed to see if the kid continues to play. If keeps playing in a few months then I can sell the cue for what I gave for it and move him up to a better cue. It is like guitars , you don’t buy a Martin right off the bat.

I am the unknown , you should be the unknown. That would be Beautiful , you could walk into a Gay Bar and Guys would be running over themselves trying to get to you.
Mr. Tournament Champ: I know you want to dodge the premise of the accusation but really...trying gay and small pecker jabs is just juvenile.

There is a life lesson in that "black" cue.

I was raised and I raised according to the Golden Rule: If I was footing the bill, we did it my way. On their nickel, they could buy what they wanted, within reason, but I always counseled quality. In my world, quality and performance come first, and looks trail far behind. Its kind of like a kid who buys a car for its flash and trash paint job and neglects to look under the hood -- the story has a bad ending. I always liked my old Nova. It did not attract attention until the pedal hit the metal.

The Chevy Nova. That is an awesome looking muscle car. How could it not attract attention? Always loved the style of that car.

I think the "looks" over what matters in this case is a learned behavior. Some people want to be cheap while convincing themselves and those around them it ain't so. Secure people buy lower end and accept that fact while appreciating their higher end purchases as well. Then there's posers that think they're fooling people or make up in their head things are "just as good as"...

Sounds like I hit a nerve 🤫
I also don’t understand what I am supposed to be dodging here. Nor did I ever say anything about Tournament Champ. I just said I won a few back Years ago when I played regularly. Do I not speak your native Language. It seems to me you make this up as you go. Again you are either trying to Compensate for Something or trying to impress someone. It doesn’t look good on you. Move on let it go for the Love of Pool. Nobody cares about you or your Opinions. Good day

1200, 2000, 3000, 5000 grit sandpaper. (ebay has it)
any good carnauba wax. I use Mothers Pure Carnauba Paste Wax. (same can has lasted 7 years)
wash hands before playing, and keep them dry. If you can't keep them dry use a glove, but still do the above.

Here - I'll make up and ask your next question for you:

Guys - what kind of chalk under .10 a cube makes you look like a pro?

If you are doing the sealing by hand, what do you use for a sealer?
I’m just referring to using the renaissance wax that comes in a can. Just wiping some on the entire shaft with a cloth, and then after a very short time of roughly 60-90 seconds, buffing it out with another cloth.

I do that with mine.

I'll try and reply to how to make your shaft feel slicker. I use cue silk. Put a few drops on a piece of paper towel and rub/buff it in. May need to do twice if you have sanded your shaft. Your shaft will be so slippery. also agree with starting at 1200 to your existing shaft, and going to between 2000 and 3000. 3000 is tough to find. As a woodworker, I am not a big fan of waxing shafts, as it is a big dust and dirt attractor. I have used Renaissance wax before, and it was nice, but for a short term. Alot better players than me like waxing their shafts, so take what I said with a grain of salt.
