linen wrap - change its feel? can I do it as non-cuemaker.

I know linen wrap feels different from one cue to another because I got two identical cues with two linen wraps, however one feels really smooth and soft while the other one feels really rough and you kinda feel the threads coming out a bit.

I know that cue makers will ask you if you want it to be soft or rough and they got methods to do so.

But my question here, if I like the soft one more so than the rough one, is there a procedure that I can follow to change the rough linen wrap into a soft touching linen wrap? Assume that I am your average joe who know nothing about manufacturability of cues.

Spray starch and ironing may help some, but likely it was wound looser, meaning a re-wrap would be in order.

Can you post photos of the wraps? The one may be sanded a bit and there are ways to treat this.

Do you have access to a lathe?

No access to lathe, and sure tomorrow ill post pictures of my two cues. One is very soft touching wrap, the other is very rough.
 
You can also try putting the pin in a drill and rubbing the handle with wax paper, that will smooth it out. You can do it without a drill also but it takes longer.

If you don't have the proper tooling or knowledge.
Please STOP!
Find a Cue maker or Cue mechanic and ask for help.
 
like Mike Webb said ... you need the tools to really do the job on a linen wrap.
You must spin the cue to press it and finish it.
A rough feeling wrap is pressed with spray starch and left to dry.
A smother wrap can be had by using a bit of shaft sealer after the starch is almost dry and pressing it again.
For the smoothest you let the starch pressed linen dry completely then use a small coating of shaft sealer and lightly sand with 800 grit to get that really smooth feel.
I am sure others have other methods but that is what works for me.
