I have a really nice one from Dominiak Cues, not expensive, radial pin, I'm sure they could accommodate a pin swap
Will look into this, thanks!
The reasons I am looking to get one with a Uni-Loc joint are:
- Quick to put together and take apart
- Can get new shafts without worrying about a flush fit
Agreed! I contacted Schmelke on their website to inquire about the joint. Waiting to hear back from them.
Saving 2 seconds of time to put a cue together is really not something you should be worried about IMHO
Flush fit, that depends on the collar width not really the joint type. Even in unilock cues and shafts the collar width can varry.
What you should thing about when it comes to joint type, first if you have other shafts and cues, what joints do they use?
Second, how easy it is to find shafts you may want to try in the pin type or how many of your friends use that joint type so you can test drive their shafts.
Shaft type, since Predator and a few other brands use the QR Unilock joint that may not be an issue, but if you have other cues and shafts, for sure you should make matching those a priority vs faster time putting the cue together. It's not like you are going to be taking the thing apart every other rack right?
To give you an example, if I go to a bar or pool hall to shoot pool I am a lot less willing to bring my Mezz cue. At the same time, I am unwilling to use a house cue because I am a snob like that and would rather not play at all. In that situation, I can carry a Sneaky Pete with both a play shaft and break shaft and change as needed, not because it is necessarily worse or cheaper, but because it's less immediately recognizable as a cue worth stealing. If I understand what I'm reading why not order the multiple extra shafts from whomever you have make the cue or is selling you the cue to cut down on any confusion at a later time or place ?
Maybe it's my age showing but I don't go chasing many windmills very often if ever now days I feel that cue maker's and those who sell carbon fiber shafts survive on it.
The old bar cue i mentioned that was customized by Billy Saunders the big brother to Lance Saunders who also shot with a cue Billy made for him he could keep up and play very well against any and all comers for an example .
Just a bit of how I feel about looking for the holy grail of pool cues .
I for one still miss Billy for his cues and Lance for the competition .

yea but it's a PITA having to run around looking for your sneaky pete when bangers mistake it for a house cue. i'd rather get a plain jane in that case

Any competent cue maker can make you a nice sneaky. Any woods you prefer?
That's totally doable and shouldn't be too expensive. I would advise you to reach out to a cue maker close to you and have a cue built.Probably cocobolo and curly maple if I had a choice
The SPW was Predator's first sneaky 20+ years ago and it had veneers. You might find an SP4RW or SP8RW for sale:: these are the (proper) sneaky Petes Predator made before their "roadline" series.
Predator retired that color scheme (green veneers) when Falcon closed their Canadian operation. The 2nd series, red veneers came out when they found their next OEM, same factory that make LucasiDo they still sell that SP cue from predator? Thanks!

To my understanding Predator have never made anything themselves. Joss, Falcon, Taican have made the cues and shafts. I know the Revo shafts are made in USA, not sure if that shop is actually owned by Predator, judging from the promo video, they have some nice Hardinge HLV lathes.did falcon also make the shafts back then? thinking the pre-cat 314
