How do better players find games?

Hi everyone I just got back from a really long hiatus and have been pretty active on here as of late. You all are probably getting sick of my posts. But I have a serious question for the better players on here.

I like to play for some cash on occasion. Even low money. It’s more fun. Now I just responded to another members post and it got me thinking. How do you better players find a game?

Here’s my thing. I used to go to the local hall religiously and was pretty good. On the fence of being for lack of a better term-awesome. So the only people who would play me were the worldbeaters if you will. No one close to my speed would play without a spot. I guess it was too risky for them.

Now when I think about it the few people I saw in there who were even better(the worldbeaters) almost never had a game unless I was the one playing them. So how do you guys find money games? I’m just talking low stakes games. $20-100? Once you are that good are you pretty much just stuck as a tournament or higher stakes player after?

Get to know the players in the local scene and they should be able to point you in the right direction. For instance, our local BCA operator has a stream every Sunday that offers medium stake games for those that want to match up. Usually $500 to $1000 a race.

Walk in a pool hall and shoot around and watch, you'll see the gamblers but in my experience around me the big bets are usually during the week and during the day and the weekend nights bring in the average $50-$100 sets

you have to learn how each person plays and the spot you need from them to win or to give if you are better and they wont play even.
only a fool plays better players and loses. and is a real fool to over spot a weaker player and lose.

and if you play all out, they all get to see how you play and wont play without a game they can surely win at. its called gambling to win.

In my room it really depends on your speed and how much you want to play for. Anything up to about a 700 Fargo and a few hundred $‘s per set can usually be had most evenings just for the asking. More than that may take a phone call or two, but can usually be accommodated.

Haha. I’m not usually in it for the money. I’m in it to beat the best. You have to beat the best to be the best. You have to go against the odds sometimes. And the best typically aren’t playing without a wager on the game. Back then I was in my late teens without any bills and worked 80-100 hours every week. No bs. At one time I had 4 jobs. One was working at the hall. Which was good because if the 4th job was elsewhere it would have been hard to find time to play.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s fun playing without any wagers with friends and others. And any better players for sure. But even playing for a beer is better than playing for nothing in my mind. That goes for playing with friends or people I don’t know. You either leave satisfied or with a bad taste in your mouth. And I used to drop $’s a week losing to a better player or 2. Im around Chicago and there was this old guy Vince that used to come in and rip me a new one at one pocket on occasion too. I’m not a fool. Without admitting it, I was paying for lessons.

So after a while I would always get their best shot instead of their hustle. Maybe it’s because they knew I didn’t care or maybe I was catching up to them. Who knows I never asked. And beating those guys straight up even 10% of the sets, felt way better than beating up on lessor players. Even if I was down a few hundred by the end of it.
