Best use for bar banger

6 years ago I got a Players Sneaky Pete for $60 to use as a bar banger. The solid maple shaft on that cue turned out to be one of the best I have seen, it's incredibly smooth, shiny without any finish aplied and very dense. I weights in at 143g / 5oz and it hasn't had a single dent on it. It measures 12.92mm at the end of the ferrule.

I don't play in bars anymore, only in pool halls and I started using it as a break cue with its original Le Pro. A few months ago wanting more power, I put a Taom 2.0 break tip on it. The result was pretty underwhelming, the increase in power minimal. I am guessing that the weak point is the ferrule which must be pretty soft.

What would the best use for this cue be? I am playing with LD shafts now and I don't see that changing.

Replace the ferrule?

Maybe have a cue builder core the end, put in a balsa plug, and put on light weight ferrule. Make a LD out of it.

I misunderstood the term "bar banger" but my advice would be the same. Pass it on to the next fella in the bar. Appreciate the fact that it was there for you at that time in your life and that you have moved on to better things.

I know a cuemaker that finds nice old house cues and makes LD shafts out of them, like above from buckshotshoey.

Odd that a dense and thick shaft would not feel good as a break cue. Not that you will see a big jump in power, but you should have a good feel in it for the hit. Much of the benefit of a break cue is not so much adding power to the break but having a tip that is not going to deform or change hardness after being pounded on and having a thicker less flexible shaft for that solid hit.
