Does anyone know about his early “HUSTLER CUES” as I read that he didn’t call them Sneaky’s.. inremoved the bumper & there is a plate with what looks like a “ flat head type line in the middle of the plate …is this removable & or is there a weight under it ? I tried to remove it and it won’t budge…. ANY INFO WOULD BE SPPRECIATED 👍✌️😎

Hi David,

I own a couple of Hueblers and the plate is sealed in wax. I would recommend posting the question (if you haven't already) in the Ask The Cuemaker forum to see if anyone can post recommendations on who can safely remove this to change the bolt. This includes heating the wax and if you're not careful, it'll damage the finish if it gets too hot.

It is very easy for the average person to end up cracking the butt cap when trying to remove frozen weight bolts. I did it to my Huebler many years ago and now you can no longer get a Huebler butt cap to replace yours if you crack it. I even had a cue maker crack a Meucci Original butt cap when trying to remove a weight bolt for me.

My recommendation from experience; is that if you really want the weight bolt removed/replaced - have a very competent cue maker do it for you- You can send it to Muellers in Lincoln. Nebraska and Troy Downey, one of the best U.S. cue makers/repair persons; will do anything you want to the cue at a very reasonable rate with the utmost professional results.

You can gradually heat most wt. bolts with the tip of a soldering iron to soften the glue. Go slow if you're gonna do it.

i have one and resorted to mailing Huebler back when . They said no can do. Thanks for this info. there may be hope for it still.

If you attempt to heat the weight bolt just remember that the heat travels slowly through steel because the cold end is absorbing the heat slowly through transference.
Heat it a little at a time and allow the heat to transfer slowly where it builds an even heat all the way. This can take a few times of applying heat in shorter increments, doing this avoids loosening the other epoxies on the sleeve.
There will be residual glue on the metal and wood threads that need to come off before putting it back or it may cause too much pressure and lead to cracks.

Proceed with extreme caution. Most Heublers if not all, have what looks like a lamp post holding the butt cap on then the weight bolt. It's no joke and can be a pain in the ass.

I tried getting mine out and knew it wasn't going to end well. Years later I sent it off to a well known cue maker for rewrap and asked if he could get it out. He called me later and said no way. I'd say leave it as is, that's what I did.
