Long Term cue storage

Do you recommend keeping them in plastic like they come from the manufacturer or putting older ones in plastic

My Runde Schon has been stored in a Instroke hard leather case for 36 years.
All my cues are stored in hard leather cue cases and my 6x12 soft leather case.

The Runde Schon rolls just as straight as when it was new as do my other cues.
It is the environment of how you store your cue cases that’s truly more important.

A cue can roll straight, yet the shaft can still be warped. When you roll your shaft on a granite countertop does the middle of the shaft stay the same distance from the surface?

Yes, the gap underneath remains the same when you roll the cue on a kitchen granite counter top
that is level. How do I know the counter is level? I’ve checked it with a Mercurate digital level and
performing a spill test on the counter, the liquid remains in the same stationary place & doesn’t run.

I've had the same Huebler for well over 25 years and while I was out of pool for 14 years it was stored in a Giuseppe case upright in a closet and it's still straight.

It has been stored in a JB case for the last 3 years and still straight.

IMHO - mother nature is going to do her thing and there's nothing you can do about it

Clearly, there needs to be some care taken (you shouldn't leave them in hot/cold environments for long periods of time, etc.) but if it's stored in a temperature controlled environment and generally protected random fluctuations in temperature you should be ok. If it warps then, I doubt you would've been able to do anything about it.
