Looking for information on the new Whyte Carbon Shafts. Does anyone know who makes them? If you play with this shaft, please tell us more about the shaft.

I haven’t heard of them. But they look like decent shafts depending on the price. I’d like to hear some more on them.

AFAIK they're making the inserts(OB uses them) but i don't think shafts are on sale yet. I emailed them. See what happens.

The new OB Raven does not use the interch. joint inserts. Uses a threaded phenolic insert.

They now have 3 versions of CF.

The original Fusion. $400
The OB Carbon... $424
And the New Raven. $325

The price for the Raven is excellent. If it plays well.
Not 100% here but i think the interch. joints version is being discont. UD: just checked and interch. original version will still be made. OB said Raven has a little firmer hit in their opinion. Also is 30".

I believe they retail for $500 and come with 1 joint adapter. Additional adapters are $70.

Who sells Whyte? I've tried contacting a couple times and no answer. I asked some buddies with insider connections and they all say the shafts aren't out yet. Can't find one listed for sale anywhere.

When I was at the APA in Vegas a few months ago, the same guy (John Bertone) that was running the Kamui booth was running the Whyte Carbon booth.

Lee Brett is the connect. He was running some auctions from Vegas. I have one of the shafts, (I won an auction). I am waiting to get the insert for a radial pin.

I checked them out at the APA. They look sweet. White, off white, black and an Ash one that really looks like ash wood.

dunno. is it possible to achieve a color other than black/dark grey with just cf?

any coating of paint would add weight and be subject to wear off. i think.
I'm not a mechanical engineer or cue maker - but there is a variety of methods and technologies to coat/bond CF, high quality paint processes, nanocrystal-bonding, ceramics - used in a wide variety of applications from automotive, aviation, industrial, performance bicycle parts - easy to google articles. I imagine the biggest barrier for pool is materials/process product R&D costs vs market size, but over time economies-of-scale trickle down factor from other industries is probably changing things. In scuba diving world same issues exist - the small niche of technical cave diving was like 10 years late to the party on high quality focusable LED lights for deep underwater civilian/non-commercial applications - but now there is good quality, low cost stuff widely available. Personally, I like the matt black mainstream CF stuff & don't really like the idea of moving parts in the shaft - but it's cool to see the emerging innovation, customization, and new vendors showing up in pool equipment world.
