CSI/Tournament Las Vegas - Total participant question

Hello,
I used to play the CSI event in Vegas every year at the Riviera and then Rio. I seem to remember when I first attended in 2007 that the total participant numbers seemed to be around 20k people across all of the events.
I am just curious as to whether there are total participant numbers available and how that has trended throughout the years.
This is purely for curiosities sake, as I saw someone post that this year was the biggest pool event of all time.

I would think because of Covid Restrictions, MASKS in Vegas.

Cost to get to Vegas.

Cost of Motel & Hotel's.

Cost to park personal Vehicle's.

Cost of food & drink.

Let’s say Las Vegas in not the reasonable vacation it once was.

Friend goes there 4 times a year for Poker, he said everything is very expensive, he get comped a lot, but normally gamble thousands.

Attendance appears to be lower in recent years (even pre covid), however that could also be an optical illusion as the divisions are more granular and the location is a little roomier than the Riviera (I miss the Riv though).

Cocobolo, I think you could also add the change in location, time of year and introduction of Fargo/Division changes as possible reasons for a change in attendance.

Statewide mask mandate ended on Feb.10th. If you're playing what difference does it make how many are going?

Well the last time I was in Las Vegas was 2008.

Remember good old days before deal went away.

Things changed.

Ah mostly before my time going there, but I can imagine it was a lot more affordable before it became more of a family entertainment destination.

Correct and Celebrity Chefs have opened restaurants, replacing some of the place with deals.
This is true. The one plus I have noticed in recent years, is that the hotel resort fees have been dramatically reduced at most Vegas hotels, which is huge. It was up to $38 a night at a lot of the hotels, which was daylight robbery.

Resort Free are not going away, parking fees are not going away.

The other thing that is hitting Las Vegas is local Tribal Casinos. Plus online gambling.

Masks are not required in Las Vegas. Parking is free outside the CSI event at the Rio. I went in 2015-2016, and again last year. 2021 seemed like 40% less people compared to 2016. I liked it better, easier to get around with less people.

As a regular pool player in Vegas...it is always less expensive to stay at least 5 miles away from the strip and rent a car to go back and forth. Do not stay on the strip for a hotel or meals.

Some of the resort fees are $50+ (per night) this year! What the heck is going on?? 🙁

The strip is useless for anything imo

Here’s what’s going to happen if that trend continues.

If there are 40% less people you can expect that the tourney room they rent for that use will shrink proportional to the number of people playing. So you’ll end up smushed into a smaller space with less players.

If the number of attendees shrinks so to will the allocated space for the festivities.

Maybe the line for food & beverage elsewhere on the property will be quicker.

I have friends who work in casinos & for the Las Vegas convention authority and attendance across all conferences, trade shows, expo’s, events is down sharply. 40% down isn’t too bad comparatively.

What the real loss is when a pool tourney gets too small the vibe is gone and it’s like being at the pool room-not a tourney/jamboree which has its own special energy and is one of the reasons to go.

Imagine going to a big concert with 27 people instead of 2000. Kinda boring. Why bother?

I hope that doesn’t happen with pool, sure less people is comfortable for taking a piss-who wants to wait in line? But if a tourney feels like another night at the pool room-why bother going?

That’s all I got,
Fatboy<——-probably will go anyways lol

Keep in mind, 40% less people was last year, when Vegas required masks for everyone. Attendance should improve, this event, with no masks required.

I hope so, next year when flying is 1.7X more expensive and $50 resort fees are $70. We’ll see the attendance numbers.

Hospitality biz has troubles.

More regional tourneys are likely. No clue what leagues will do.
