Sponsor thoughts.

That's the way snooker has gone over the last decade. Its all betting companies now.the cazoo sponsor Is a recent one.
A long time ago it was cigarettes.

cazoo is a chain of car dealerships. but yes i would like to see more betting companies and online casinos as sponsors. they have a lot of dough.

weed is illegal where i live. i don't smoke, but i want it legalized. for pool i don't think it would be an optimal sponsor. just think how would parents think when they see their kid watching an event with a big marijuana leaf behind the pool table and a website to go with it? i think it could have a negative effect with some potential viewers turning away.

The new kids on the block seem to be more professional which would help attract a good sponsor. Maybe we see it in our lifetime. Hopefully
100% they are a safer bet for corp clean image branding, good point!!

To me its hypocritical as hell. More people die/get sick from alcohol-related issues in one year than weed related in 5 or 10 and you can buy it anywhere without a card or prescrip. Having cannabis support pool, or any other sport, doesn't bother me in the least. Folks this ain't golf. If you think big-time sponsors are going to be involved in pool anytime soon you need to wake up. Matchroom has been backed by gambling from jump street. Really think that cannabis getting involved is going to do any harm? I agree with previous poster that its better than some scammish crpto $$.

I’m not against weed at all. I have always thought it should be legal. I just don’t smoke weed. Or anything for that matter. I have zero problem with it. Never thought it was bad.

I've smoked at least a ton in my life. Don't smoke anymore but take gummies to sleep. They're the nuts.
The gummies are ok once in a blue moon. But they keep me awake. I might be the only person ever who gets wired up on them. I wish they helped me sleep. I’ve tried lots of different types over the years and some make me laugh, which is cool.

I couldn’t eat one 2 days in a row. It’s a once in a while thing at the most for me. Before I go to the dentist they are cool. Makes the drill sound like race cars. A bag of 10 last me months and the last few are hard as rocks they get old.

But I’m not a drinker or drug guy either. I was on the pain pills up to 2009 or 10 because of my back. I hated that stuff. But it wasn’t a option. Last hernia operation in 2014 I didn’t take a pain pill. White knuckled it.

It already has the association of hustlers, snitches, and thieves.
How would pot make this any worse ?
That's the image that needs to be corrected and one of the things DAZ mentioned in his interview for the purpose in organizing a player's association. Being sponsored by the cannabis industry would not facilitate the endeavor.

Strangely over here, the opposite is happening as the government is always poised to ban betting advertising (hasn't happened yet, but its always something that could happen). In Scotland, the recent Scottish Open ended up being played in Wales as the venue wouldn't allow the tournament to go ahead with a betting sponsor (or something along those lines).

True but it only became illegal in other countries (mostly) because of the US pushing it’s ‘war on drugs’ bs back in the day (even before they came up with that catchy name). Once the fed drops the charade hopefully the others do as well. No more threat of pulling aid, closed door bs etc over laws.

The US doesn’t have as strong an influence as in the past but they’re still up there in the world.

If a MJ company wants to sponsor I’d say that’s a great thing. The world is always changing and this is finally a change for the better. Alcohol is one of the most destructive drugs we have but it’s been heavily ingrained into our culture. MJ is basically it’s polar opposite and if it can replace alcohol as the #1 culturally acceptable escape/recreational substance we will be heading the right way.

I hope I see it pop up in pool and all the Miller lite sports.

True, but that could take years!

I also refer you back to the "bring back Hustling culture" thread of last week.

The number of supporters of that position {"bring back hustling culture"} goes a long way in answering why sponsors are so hard to find.
