shooting from different sides of the table

is it reasonable for an experienced player to prefer shooting from one side over the other?
I'm right eye dominant, right-handed, and seem to have always preferred shooting from the right side- es typical?
I'd like to learn more about why shooting from the left side of the table feels a bit awkward for me
a lack of reps on that side is logical, but only compared to shooting from the right side, as I've done that more
I shoot ok from the left side, but in an effort to improve that, what would y'all recommend?
practice is obvious, but what's a good way? a lot of questions, I know..thanks for the look

It sounds like you mean when the table's on your shooting arm side or not. If so, the difference could be feeling more "crowded" or awkward one way or the other.

Not an instructor.

Gene at perfect aim billiards has a good way of addressing it. I don't want to spill the cheese but it has to do with how you're looking at the ball. The angle slightly changes how your dominate eye needs to be seeing the ball.

Do this, it's not part of perfect aim. Focus on just the very edge of the ball when it's where you like to shoot. See how crystal clear and sharp it looks? Get it to look like that on the less preferred side and you're almost there.

Yes. Totally agree with this and it starts with the approach --- how you step into the shot. Speaking for myself, I'm right-handed and have a very strong dominant right eye -- a lot like Earl Strickland. As a result, I will tend to see the left side of the cb better than the right side. Shots where running English is left English are easy for me to execute, but I have learned that I have to pay attention more in my approach on angles when right English is running English.

To Evergruven: It's good that you've discovered your tendencies. Focus on your approach on the shot angles that seem uncomfortable to you. Setting up properly is half the battle.

Think you have to learn to be flexible. Not every shot is on your strong side.

About all I play is One Pocket, I am Left Handed, but my Right Eye is my dominate Eye.

So I have a favorite side to break from. But I often find I am stuck shooting at side I do not prefer.

So I practice playing strong, and week side.

Why because you have to be prepared for not being at disadvantage.

If you have the time, there's no substitute for mastering the whole deal. Left, right, switch hitting as well. I have found the spatial feel to be "handed" but contact aiming reduces that to shooting the cue ball.

But you are shooting to all pockets from both sides of the table in all games except 1p, where's the difference?

No difference but everyone has strong, and week sides.

Did see one professional player who did switch from shoring strong side Righty, to week side left handed for shot hr pull off.

Bet he practices both R & L handed.

Well yes, some players do switch hands for a specific reason, like to avoid using a mechanical bridge, for example, or to avoid an awkward stance. But players don't switch hands every time they shoot from a certain side of the table or because of certain angles. If they were to do that, you'd see them switching constantly. That would play havoc with their aiming system.
