-:-:-:-:-:-:--- Joss East Pre-1997 GOLD LETTERS ---:-:-:-:-:-:-

It's a JOSS-sorry for the confusion. Many years ago when Dan Janes and Bill Stroud split up
and Stroud started making Joss West cues the cues Dan Janes made were referred to as Joss East cues.
Back then if someone asked you what cue you were shooting with and you said Joss they'd say East or West.

In the mid 80's Joss cues were often called Joss East or West cues by people that owned and collected them. Bill was obviously Joss west. Danny was Joss and when Bill started up for a few years buyers would show off his cues and be asked Joss east or west. It was mostly bragging rights. No one cared. That is just what you would hear out of the owner's mouths. Regularly and everywhere.

Bill and Dan founded JossCues in 1968 and in 1972, Bill decided to set out on his own.

That was a great thing because Bill produced some amazing cues and at the same
time, created the opportunity for Dan to hire Tim Scruggs who became a heralded cue
maker. Bill was so proud of the workmanship of the cues that were made at Joss Cues
he wanted to retain the name but distinguish it from Dan’s cue making. Ergo, Bill used
the name Joss West. Naturally, the reaction then was since Dan remained in the east &
Bill relocated to the west, If there was a Joss West (Bill Stroud), it was only logical that
Joss Cues would be thought of as the East Coast version (Dan Janes). The name always
remained Joss Cues but it became commonly referred to as Joss East because Bill was
making cues under the Joss West name. Dan is a highly talented cue maker just like Bill.
