Carbon Fiber Shafts should be Banned

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'm sorry you're so easily triggered. Try weed - that might help.
What do you really think is keeping you from your best game? Equipment? Table time? Instruction? Or are you just not ever going to be better than average?
Excuses are cheap and readily available, obviously.

Really??? Its your opinion???? Who would have ever guessed. You've probably(hopefully) got it by now that basically no one agrees with your stance. Only one butthurt here is you.

The only people Ihave ever heard complain about an equipment advantage are guys I could beat with a crooked house cue.
That would be a fun handicap tournament. Higher-rated players have to use a bar cue chosen by their opponent, while lower-rated players can use whatever cue they want.

I was actually messing around on a friend's table, and found that I could shoot with a large walking stick. Pool cues vs. Walking Sticks would be a hoot.

If you were cooler, you'd recognize a Big Lebowski reference when you saw one.

For me personally, I dislike the soulless nature of CF shafts, and LD shafts offend my notions of fairness.

My preference for old-school equipment is mainly aesthetic. I could use a CF shaft, if I was only worried about improving my game, but I think they're ugly. I own a really good LD shaft, but I feel that it gives me an unfair advantage against those who don't want to spend a lot of money on a pool cue, and I still prefer the aesthetics and game-play of old-school shafts - they're harder to play with, but I think they're also much cooler.

As a newer player, I have to choose what to play with, because if I switch between LD and non-LD, that requires quite a bit of adjustment. I wish that such a choice was rendered unnecessary by equipment restrictions in competition, but you can't always get what you waaaant, unless you try real hard, and then you might get what you need.

Table time is expensive. A lot of people can just barely afford the table time, if they can afford it at all, and they don't have money beyond that to buy a high tech shaft.

Or else they buy the shaft, and then can't afford table time for awhile.

Do you play with a warped Adam now? If not, why not?

If a person has to budget as closely as your example, they would be better not playing pool. Maybe read a book. Perhaps learn a marketable skill.

My warped Adam got stolen. Now I play with either a Schmelke, a Lee Peppers, a couple Mike Stacys, a Greg Sirca, or (usually) one several I made.

Why? Because I like them. They don't make me play better, but in the case of the ones I made, there is pride associated.

Btw, I've even used LePro tips without testing their hardness. Shocking, I know. My game didn't suffer.

The only advantage cf has, as far as I can tell, is that it is less prone to damage. It is not impervious to damage.

If carbon fiber shafts don't provide an advantage, then they're pointless, so there will be no harm in eliminating them, and it will save people from wasting money. If they do provide an advantage, then my point stands.

$300 is just for the shaft, and young people are lower-income than anyone else. Someone scraping by on $8.00/hour or student loans can't necessarily shell out an extra $300 - they often can't even afford dental care, a car, or an apartmen

J Flowers sells a full cue with a carbon shaft for $319. And my point was if you're in that type of financial situation, you probably shouldn't be betting on pool games

Aaaaah. Shoulda known. You are a newer player, which automatically makes you an expert.

Look up Dunning-Kruger effect. You don't know nearly as much as you think you know.

Come back in a dozen years, then you'll have almost half the experience that most of the people you are arguing against have now.

Bought my first table 32 years ago. Made my first cue 26years ago. I was a teenager when I did both.

Ugly? I disagree. Left to right, my old Meucci original, McDermott G502 with Defy shaft, my son's Skylar Woodward Meucci with Carbon Pro shaft and my Meucci Sneaky Pete with Carbon Pro shaft.

They may not be as pretty as curly maple and ebony but they ain't ugly.

That is subject to taste. Arguing about ugly is a waste of time.

Case in point:. Julia Roberts was once considered a beauty icon. I think she is about as pretty as the horse she stole her face from. Her older brother looks exactly like her when he grows his hair long.

The majority of people under 34 are in a financial situation where playing pool is prohibitively expensive, unless they have access to a free pool table. Even if they fall in love with the game, their options to actually play it are limited, and so making it even more expensive chases a lot of would-be players away from the table.

Maybe they can scrape and save enough to afford 20 hours at the table a week, but then adding additional expenses makes it hopeless.

I guess it depends on the person though. Most of the people I know in our pool room are around that 34 age range and like 90% of them shoot with a carbon shaft and they play in the weekly tournament almost every week. They aren't rich but they aren't hurting for money either.

Its like any hobby or anything people do, if you want it bad enough, you will save up for it/budget for it.

Some would agree with you (although not me):
"I see the girls walk by
Dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head
Until my darkness goes
I wanna see it painted
Painted black
Black as night
Black as coal
I wanna see the sun
Blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted
Painted black, yeah."

I just recently made the switch to CF. I had a Revo 12.9 for a few years now but never used it because I hated how the rings didnt match up on my playing cue. So I had a cue made for it...

Anyway, after playing with it for about a week now, it deflects practically the same as my previous shafts did (which is really low deflection). I'm still compensating roughly the same amount as I did previously. My previous shaft was a standard maple, non-laminated but ferrule-less.

90% sounds right. From what I've seen, CF will likely make wood shafts extinct.

And I think that sucks, and that's part of what motivated me to create this post in the first place. I have to bite my lip when someone hands me a CF-shaft cue to try out, or tells me they just ordered a CF shaft.

Black is the new black. I liked it better when every cue had its own unique, individual personality.

If the better player was used to using an LD shaft that would be a valid handicap.

Do you think any of us had money to buy more extravagant things when we were younger? The answer is no. We all had to scrimp and save for the things we wanted. When I started playing pool I either had to use a bar stick or a cheap ass Kmart cue. I didnt whine and complain because somebody else had a $500 Cue.

I have said this before if some of you remember, but the younger generation has the instant gratification attitude syndrome. They don't want to work save for something they want. They want it handed to them Well, guess what? The world doesn't work like that.

If there is one thing we today is JOBS. There are jobs everywhere. Get off you fat lazy ass, turn off the XBox, and go out and get a part time job if you want something. It's that simple.
