You could but it will be quite a bit of work. Most of the time spent for me was on the prep for finish; filling grain, sanding, priming, sanding, priming, more sanding and priming to achieve a smooth surface for the finish coat. Diamond could do that but the price would go up. I was showing my wife's uncle the finished product and he asked me what material I used to build the cabinet and lid. When I told him plywood and poplar he didn't believe me. He thought it was plastic.
It does for me as well. Form was the driving factor in deciding to build my own. I wanted a Gold Crown Ball Polisher to match my table, light and cue rack. One didn't exist so I built it.
It would be awesome to see a single photo with your table, light, cue rack and ball polisher all in the same photo?
Once I get started I'm up for the project. My Festool dust extractor is getting Dusty. Needs a workout. Could also use formica...there are some really nice looking pieces to choose from.
