Cornhole gets great niche "sport" ratings on ESPN and now strives for entry into the Olympics games :(

US Cornhole leadership is working diligently to get it deeply organized internationally, then proposing it for recognition by the Olympics Committee.

Absolutely bizarre to think that it may be played in future Olympics before billiards makes it into the competitions.

The recognized world champion cornhole player is quoted as saying his playing peak occurs after he's had at least six beers!

Arnaldo ~ Never knew about any of this and now wish I didn't. Where the heck are we going. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I saw some college cornhole on TV a few weeks ago, and they managed to stick it in the hole about 95% of the time. In the hole, in the hole, in the hole. It was more boring than watching a bunch of pros break and runout in 9-ball, rack after rack.

Don't see how anyone can sit through that.

Because it’s easy to understand

Pool isn’t to the untrained eye.

Remember everyone who knows zero about pool 99% of the population takes BIH and sets it up dead straight. What that 99% sees and what we see are 2 different things.

Pool just sucks at marketing for some reason.

Case in point: Covid and its associated restrictions in 2020.

At a time when there was no live sports, everyone was stuck at home, and sports channels scrambling to broadcast SOMETHING, one of the easiest sports in the world to socially distance couldn’t find a way to get itself air time.

It really would have been easy enough to grab a pool hall that had about 25 tables (they were shut down to the public anyway), use a couple of tables each 20 ft apart for a broadcasted tournament, with commentators sitting in their living rooms, and instead of the players chairs being about 6 feet from the table, move them to about 10 feet. Players can lag on 2 different tables and use a ruler to measure, as the lag is really the only point in time we ask players to be close to each other.

“In chaos, there is profit” and, during the Covid chaos, pool for some reason abandoned any attempt at profit….despite being poised to so with just a little outside the box thinking.

Cornhole has been successful because they sells advertising, and sponsorship to big buck corporations.

Cornhole players have good demographic to buy products from sponsors.

It could not be easier to understand. Requires almost no equipment. You can actually make one yourself. Takes up no room. Plus, it's fun to play and competitive. It has everything going for it. Pool by compairson has very little going for it. Hard to play, somewhat expensive. If you want your own table it will cost a lot and need special accommodations.

I said the same thing about marketing years ago. There was a post it note on the door to a big pool room I used to got to advertising an upcoming tournament. That was their marketing and advertising scheme and budget. A post it note stuck on the door!

CornHole competition is nothing more than a just yard game played indoors.

It is about as exciting as a one legged blindfolded man spittoon exhibition.

If pool doesn’t have more appeal than tossing sacks into a hole, it’s doomed.

The problem is their hands are all over the same balls and tables.

Where are you seeing Pro's running rack after rack after rack? Dennis and Kaci have the highest break and runs in recent tournaments and they've only done it a few times, so 9 Ball can't be that boring can it?

Yep your right! Its the same reason Black Jack is so popular at the casinos, if you can count a little bit you might win and if you cant you still might win, doesnt take much thinking and little talent.

Its always easy to market things that require little effort to participate in.., you want grow a plant buy a Chia Pet!

Our group did an online trickshot tournament with those of us that had tables at home and it got highlighted on a news station in Michigan. Why? Because someone took the time to get it set up. I know the WPBA did some playing the ghost events as well as the NAPA League having playing the ghost leagues. If others didn't do it, then that's on them.

The Original post was quoted saying "US Cornhole Leadership." Who is the US Pool Leadership? Cornhole has organized leadership and a fanbase that invests in it. How many times do we hear pool players whine and complain about paying money for a multiple day stream while those same people freely pay $75 for a 2 hour UFC fight is less than 1 hour of actual fighting?

One can obtain professional boards and bags for around $400 to practice at home. Can't get a professional quality table and cues for that. One could probably become competitive at the pro level at cornhole within a year if they dedicated themselves. Can one do that at pool?

Mike Sigel told me the first time he played corn hole after a few minutes he couldn’t miss. Hit 20 in a row. I believe him.

The future of pool has suffered because it has failed to plant seeds of interest in America’s youth.
Those same individuals progress in their lives and careers and are the future players that pool needs.

The PGA recognized that with their youth golf programs. Grade schools, H.S. and colleges field teams.
You have to get people interested in pool while their young; they will work hard to get better & compete.
Expose them to playing pool through local youth centers and after school programs. Invest time & money
in the future because in 5-10 years there’s be a whole lot more pool players & also greater interest in pool.

The billiard industry should be promoting pool with our educators as a recreational pastime and also as a
competitive sport. It requires an organized effort and funding but unless we develop younger players, the
likelihood of them becoming an avid pool enthusiasts is very low. But playing pool competitively for your
school team or club that helps to cultivate student interest & support and will pay huge dividends in the future.

Ha, ha....you're right of course. A great exaggeration on my part. I guess it just seems like rack after rack, because 9-ball is boring to watch. (key words...to watch). 10-ball is a better game, IMO.

Still, I'd much rather watch 9-ball than corn hole. :)

I agree I think most pool players would rather watch pool.

Problem is not many people play pool at a level to understand what they are watching.

It’s like me watching chess. Idk wtf is going on. 😂

I once worried my kids' friends would trash my pool table. Not a single one has ever wanted to touch it. I don't think the kids like Cornhole either, but it's something they can play for 10 or 15 minutes to idle some time away.
