I know my cf shaft is straight, every time.
I've got a Becue carbon fiber shaft with a terrible taper roll. I got it that way from the seller, so I don't know its history. I thought there was something wrong with the joint, so I sent it in to Becue to get it fixed, but when they got it they delivered the bad news: the shaft was warped, can't fix it. The notion that a carbon fiber shaft can be thrown in your trunk, and it will be straight as the day it was made is a fallacy in my experience (= 1 carbon fiber shaft).

Great thread topic hang-the-9! I don’t know if these would be booed in a pool hall but here are a few of mine.

Tournaments without shot clocks.

Announcers who try to guess what shot the player is going to play.

Players who slam down their cues or sulk in their chair when things aren’t going their way.

Players who stand up near the table holding the rack while the other player is pocketing the last ball.

i love pool, pretty much all games, but i hate the pool player attitude. we dont even show ourselves any respect let alone others. i get it, okay, you want to beat me out of my money. everything is “fixed.” Leagues and ratings are manipulated, money matches are just for show, and the side money at tournaments likely dictates who wins. everything just seems like a big fake front for gambling addicts. and we love it! so many are entrenched in the idea that gambling is pretty much the only reason to play pool, and i understand—if you have the talent and can win money playing i’m sure that it’s a similar rush to the brain as hitting the jackpot on a slot machine. nobody is above the seduction of addiction.

i’m not good enough to win or wealthy enough to just give my money away while i lose over and over again. i just like to hit balls and have no desire to remove your money from you in the process.

Carbon fiber works. However, the hit and feel reminds me of the old aluminum cues I tried a couple of for people that beat up my home cues. If carbon fiber had came out for under fifty bucks a shaft I don't think anybody would have touched one! As ridiculously overpriced marketed items they are selling like hotcakes. I tried a few a friend had and bought one. Still ain't real fond of them ...
Yeah, I wouldn't agree that CF is overrated, but I also don't believe that it is superior to wood from a playing standpoint. The durability is really the big advantage. It seems absurd that a CF shaft costs about $500 when a CF tennis racquet costs $250. Then again a wood shaft costs $120 and up, which is a lot for a few ounces of wood.

I have seen a few boring games of one pocket, even from top players, but I've also seen some amazing games full of suspense and drama.
