The exact answer to your question has evaded me for a while and I would welcome help in documenting that date. Generally speaking, however, I have read that the were available from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Sears and Roebuck, and others, sold them through their retail outlets.

Merry X-mas Boxcar! And all fellow AZBers! That's a pleasure for the eyes of a billiard connoisseur for sure, please keep 'em coming! And I especially adore those photos featuring the manufacturing process, vise, unfinished balls, etc. So cool! Mr Rubik's Cube once introduced me to a wonderful thread of pool balls collecting, and I'm stuck there since :)

A set of Romanique 1s, in its original box no less, is a rare and beautiful sight to behold. One of my all time favourites, that’s for sure… truly a classic of the phenolics.

I love them!
