thanks for the pics
i never knew that he signed his cues
as his brand was "star cues"

The signed cue is odd to me. Abe didn't make cues with points and I've not seen one he signed. The forearm looks like any old Rich Q forearm though. Very odd.?? Maybe someone knows more and can share their information with us. I suspect some are Rich Q's as I have had some of the same models. The window cues are the crown jewels in my opinion.
I definitely like your collection. Thank you for sharing them with us.

You are more than welcome.

There are actually a few signed cues, but not many. Late in his career, Abe Rich began doing his version of Titleist conversions, an example of which is shown here. The cue is absolutely genuine and because of the unorthodox treatment of the butt cap, very rare. Note the collars and rings at the joints of the cue BBB posted above and on mine.

That's great stuff. Can I assume that your cue is made from a Rich Q blank? I say that for two reasons. One, it looks exactly like one and two I am 99.9% certain Abe never attempted to build blanks. Also both examples look to be Rich Q standard issue. Any Abe cue with points made by anybody would be as rare as Ice in hell, But surely he didn't suddenly start buying all the equipment and make a couple cues with points right near the end of his career that also just happen to look just like Rich Q points. Neither one look any thing like a Titlist but they do look exactly like Rich Q points.

It's been several years since I talked to Howard, his nephew. He kind of fell of the face of the planet, but I will try to track him down and ask him. Even though it is widely known that Abe Rich had relatives in the business, not much is known about the relative who also lived in Miami who owned a baluster turning plant. I have been told by a family member that many of Abe's later shafts were turned at the baluster turning plant.

From the signed cues, we know that 1995 was a year in which he built cues with points, but I think, according to Isaac Algaze, that RichQ, as we have come to know it, was defunct by 1980 and thus, Abe would have had no family contact with RichQ after that. Could the pointed "blanks" have come from the Algaze facility in Taiwan? I'll never know, but anything is possible.

Maybe Howard will be able to help.
