When pool players begin their journey at the Harriman Academy, we want to be very clear about where it leads.
Harriman Academy is an independent organization aimed at educating pool players and non pool players.
After the Covid closures of pool rooms and political targeting by elected officials of business regulations in pool room areas, the pool community formed a reaction. The oppression of pool rooms has got to end. Two, four, six eight its time to operate.
When police/sheriff departments switch to reduced staff or have no working staff. Pool Halls are one of the few places left open. Delis and liquor stores are open but are regularly the locations of crime. Pool halls provide a level of safety, delis and liquor stores do not.
Fight for the town ordinance to keep pool halls open late. When the shelters and soup kitchens close, when someone is kicked out of their home, would you want them picked up by: Wellness officers, law enforcement or gangs? The pool halls solve that problem.
Evidence shows when public free and safe spaces are provided people in relief will find them. The pool room has to stay open late nights because in the areas they are located that is the only place that has people who will do more than just call and wait for the police.
