Mid cue extension material...

I'm thinking of making a mid cue extension and wondering if aluminum would be a decent material? I'd either spray paint it black or anodized it black to match a carbon fiber shaft. Curious to get thoughts/ideas on materials.

A mid cue extension will deaden the hit of your cue and alter the balance of the cue from what the cue maker intended. As a player, I rely on the cue's construction to transmit the hit from the tip to my grip hand. I want the immediate feedback resonated to my grip hand and the tonal sound to reaffirm a perfectly struck shot or alert me to a poorly struck shot. If you want a longer cue, have one made for you. If a mid extension works for you that's great. They are not for me.

It will change the hit, maybe for the better for you. Only thing with aluminum I see is the weight, again though the forward weight may be a benefit for you 🤷🏻‍♂️.

What I've learned in my couple years doing cue work is EVERYONE has a different opinion on what's great.

I make mine with carbon fiber and make the pin with Aluminum so it’s not so heavy.

I made one for a friend once with maple. Birdseye cored with straight grain. Aluminum male and phenolic female. Elforyn collars. Came in at 1.7oz. I much prefer a rear extension however. The mid ones add too much flex to the cue in my opinion. Some people like them though.
