The rails and pockets on my diamond Pro Am lift off together from the slate as one piece. I would like to remove the rails from the pockets. What is the safest way or recommended technique to remove the pockets from the rails?

Flip the rails upside down and take the screws out of the pockets, then they'll pop right out. If this is challenging for you, you might want to find someone that can help.

Nice job!! Do you flip the rails right side up to get the cloth under the featherstrips or can you do that working upside down? I have always wondered about that. I knew there was a reason I had someone with experience cover my rails, I wish I could find a quality mechanic in my area to cover the entire table, I really don't want to do the bed cloth again.

That's Zach Jonas, he was trained by Glen, as I was. My process is very similar, but I flip the rails twice, removing the pockets and the staples and cleaning them up first, then flip them right side up again and put the new cloth on them.
His way is slightly more efficient, and definitely useful if you're by yourself.

So then it is possible to get the cloth around the featherstrip and the featherstrip in place and do a good job all while the rails are upside down. I always wondered about that, I suppose its like welding with a mirror, if you do it enough you can become competent at it.

No, I don't think there would be much chance of that. After I get all the staples out and pockets off, I flip it back over to remove and replace the cloth and featherstrips. Then back upside down to staple it again.

👍👍I hope you’re busy and decent money.
My list of clients is growing slowly. I don't have to do tables, but I enjoy the change of pace from my normal work. Plus, I get to play on a LOT of the tables I recover and it's nice to have them done correctly.
