Cloth color

A poolroom with anything other than Simonis green or Tournament blue would just not look right to me, although I accept that camel/gold and light gray are both very good colors to play on.
Peacock Billiards in Victoria BC Canada does well with a variety of colours. This is 1/4 of the place which has 24 tables with 15 different colours. Very cheerful.

The owner - me - is not a pool purist, but a businessman who loves colour and art. And James Joyce. And...
Personally, I love it! But must be a pain in the ass to Clean? Also replacing must be either annoying or better? (cause you have to source a lot and have uneven shelf-life, or just one at a time makes more convenient?

Are all the tables different sizes? It's wild in there :love:

That would be a nightmare, virtually impossible, trying to keep different color chalk to be used on each table.

18/9's. 1/12'. 1/os8'. 4/7'. We provide gold Master chalk. Personal blue chalk is fine except on gold. Seven 'technical' tables get powder blue cloth because I 'saw' a big difference in the 'physicality' of the balls watching games on powder and tournament blue. The players have come around, mostly. We do the recovers ourselves with 42 years experience. Okay, I have a guy.

Uniformity is visually boring. The girls care about decor; the guys bring them here.

Nice variety - is snooker declining in popularity in Canada? My dad always used to like the Canadian players.

Giving the 'serious' heads some sense of superiority feeling. Good idea.

Everybody needs a 'guy' haha

Probably makes for a better vibe! Sounds like a cool hall you have got there. I'd love to visit one day. Canada is on my list of places to go for sure. I have a dream of operating a hall where I'm from one day... but I don't feel like it would ever catch on... Unless MatchRoom fireworks can generate more steam.

Here in China, it's nice to see a lot of enthusiastic participants of various levels. But besides the tables set aside for 'serious' players, it often all looks a bit 'samey' - like a nice place that took a bit of a beating lol

When I have time, I will perhaps make a thread of some of the more interesting halls that I have been to here (as some of them are next level cool). Someone just opened a hall full of tables near where I work, that are very 'country club' in feeling... hard antique woods, and a sand brown coloured cloth... mixed in with about 4 x as many Chinese - 8 tables. It's an enormous space, and I imagine it won't stay so pristine for long here...

In 1986 I had four 12' snooker and seven 8's and 9's. That was the right mix. Now I have one 12' out of 24 tables, down from 2 in 24 recently. They stand empty at night. And many snooker tables are going for $400; many available for free. Such a shame! It is so difficult to build such a machine.

Have you seen Unik tables, made by Joy Billiards? @2,000 pounds for a 9'.
Interesting. I don't see these here at all if I am honest... maybe designed for export?

I see a lot of Joy Chinese-8 tables (also Xingpai, Shenda, rasson) - the ones with ball drop straight into rack.
American tables are either Taiwanese (like the aileex tables at my local hall), Chinese copy of Taiwanese brand, or Diamond. Have stumbled across the odd Brunswick.
A lot of Xingpai snooker tables.

I do miss the snooker tables where I come from. Snooker clubs are dotted around from town to town, private members affairs - mostly two tables in small buildings, and it's a real variety of vintage/antique tables (either pristine or garbage)

I agree, it is a shame. Hopefully some sort of revival comes about. Such great snooker history in your neck of the woods.

Yes, Cliff Thorburn from Victoria was world champion in 1980 - the first non-English. That is him between my wife Helen and myself. 4'x16' painting by Frank Lewis, Canada's best muralist.

That's awesome! he was something of a cult hero in our house. My grandad liked him, and my dad grew up with him as his favourite player. I think my grandad and dad were quite fond of the 'foreign snooker' players at that time (when the game was a little more concentrated to commonwealth audience)

Grandad also liked Werbenieuk and Stevens (I think my grandad and dad have both had the privilege of meeting a lot of great players) - and we all liked taking the piss out out of Robidoux :ROFLMAO:

This is the era of snooker I was encouraged to follow as 'golden'- I would have to sit through countless stories from my grandad, while my dad was more about the Whirlwind, Drago and anyone with a bit of speed or quirk, I was busy liking The Rocket, Paul Hunter, Marco Fu

I really hope Canadian snooker comes back alive :)
